What price should I ask to sell my desktop pc?

It's the desktop pc in my system specs, just the tower only though. No monitor, speakers, external drive, keyboard, mouse or anything else.

I have a potential buyer already...

What price do you suggest I ask him?

(I use Euros but quote whatever currency, I'll work out the conversion...)

Thanks!

well... What is the cheapest store to buy computer parts where you are from? put a shopping list of the parts (or their equivalents) and that will give you a base price. I could give you what I pay here in the US, but that would grossly underprice your rig, as the EU tends to be more expensive.

Well the cheapest local shop here is Scan Malta.

Here's the closest specifications I could get for my own pc were I to build it today from them...

Coolermaster centurion € 71
E8400 €185
6GB DDR2 PC800 €85
Asus P5K €57
550W PSU €38
9600GT €115
HDD 250GB €50
HDD 160GB €42
DVD RW €25
Xtreme Audio sound card €50

Total €718 (US$1002)

Malta's so expensive when it comes to pc hardware!!

Where do you think this places my rig?

Thanks

Edit: I forgot Vista Home Premium... it's €118

So the actual total would be €836 or US$1170

You're serious?

Read Phanbuey's post how stuff is so much cheaper from the US...

I'd still gotta check about my local buyer... he's had his eyes on my pc for a couple of months now...

600-700 Euros sounds about right for your PC

Fair market price has everything to do with what other options this potential buyer has. Considering how expensive hardware is over there, I'd say you could probably sell it for at least 600 Euros.

I'd say higher... I mean ppl here sell $800 e4300 rigs with a 9500GT as "intense gaming" rigs on craigs-list. I mean it cost you 836 to build it - its tested, it works, and you installed the software on it. For someone who's new in computers, that is a big plus, and they would be willing to pay a bit more.

It might take you a bit longer to sell, but you could get 900 euro for it.

tell me about it.. people want a fortune for "old stuff" on craigslist.and decent pcs they want way too much for. I just browse and chuckle most the time, but have scored some real nice deals on occasion. but the buy/sell/ trade forum here owns them all!

Sorry for jumping on your post, but could some of you tell me what you think my main rig would be worth? once again just the tower (in my system specs) thanks.

basic rule of trade: ask more to have a margin to negotiate

so ask let's say 900 and leave it to 800-850 is your decision

Wouldnt your best bet be to part out? Easier for shipping long distance, plus you might get more for part individually.

No parted out would be bad... If the OP's selling to non PC enthusiastic people, there would be more money involved... parted out would be sold to PC enthusiasts, so you can ask less...

Your potential buyer... PC enthusiast or not?

Here's how I look at it, sell it locally to someone without the skills to build a computer. To people here who can build them in no time, it's a hard sell for labor. But that is still a very capable gaming machine that someone would probably gladly buy locally to save themselves some money over buying a prebuilt piece o crap from some big outlet. And you will be able to at least make a bit of profit off it too as you did put in some time.
