Samsung SyncMaster 2343NW
Samsung SyncMaster 2343NW 23' .
Max. resoliution : 2048 x 1152 ; FULL HD So, I though it could be specific resolution , and I'm asking - is it ? I mean that some games could not go on this monitor with this resolution. A lot of them are 1920 x 1080. Maybe some1 has a monitor with 2048 x 1152 and can feedback, is it ok or not ? |

Just because the max resolution is 2048x1152 doesnt mean it wont play games ay 800x600 thats just the highest resolution it supports.

that resolution looks like it would be native, although, native or not, you can still go to as far as 800 x 600, hehe

Just means you may not get as good picture as a native 1920 x 1080 or 1920 x 1200 display if the game cannot support 2048 x 1152, as the monitor will have to scale the image.
Thus you loose a bit of clarity with it not being a 1 : 1 pixel count.

unless you have a monster PC, gaming will be pretty laggy at that resolution.
You can lower it, but it wont be as clear as native resolution - it will get blurry and fuzzy. if you intend to game, i suggest just buying a 1080P screen.

I believe that 1900x1200 is far more than just enough nowadays.

Hell, you can slap a set top blu ray or cable box into a 16:9 screen if you feel like it, through HDMI.

1920 x 1200 = 2,304,000 2048 x 1152 = 2,359,296 It depends what you use it for, I have a TV for films, so 16:10 (1920 x 1200) is much better for me than 1080p. I prefer it for gaming and general PC tasks.

fair enough. I use my screen for both - i watch a LOT of movies, TV shows and anime via my PC. I also know a few games with poor 16:10 support (they just stretch, company of heroes is an example)

For monitors of up to 24 inches yes 1920x1080 is great for the PC user, but above that 1900x1200 is more suitable.

actually, i suppose one thing for gamers stands out: 1920x1200 screens do at least give you 1600x1200, if you play old games that dont support widescreen.
I just cant stand stretched images. haaaate em. yes this caused me issues when i first went widescreen.

Well, as I said, 16:10 give you the best of both worlds, the widescreen of 16:9 and the squareness of 4:3. 16:9 is good videos, 4:3 is good for general desktop work, and 16:10 is great for gaming.
A 23" monitor is good only if it means you're getting HD, which is 1080p (ie 1920x1080 16:9). It is a great monitor, in fact I just had a SAMSUNG 2333SW and I loved it very much. In fact, I just moved on because I had a good deal on selling it and buying a 24" and I love 1920x1200 because... well by now you know why. I would very much recommend the 23" I had, but I'd say if you could move to 24", that's sort of the "gamers size of choice".Does that help or would you like to know more, and if so, would you like to know about anything specific? |

If you want something big, but not enormous, go for a 24" like the Samsung T240. And if you're on a budget and just want to reach HD and be able to play everything up to blu rays and enjoy good gaming, get something like the Samsung 2333SW. I think though, that if you can get a good Acer, like the Acer H233HA you suggested that is within a close price to the 2333SW, then you're sitting pretty. ![]() EDIT: great advice freaksavior, he went for the equivalent monitor in his region.

Not to say it will happen all the time, but I've seen screen flicker playing games under the recommended rez. I also hate 1680x1050 on my 22'', next monitor I get will have 1920 or higher for sure. I've seen some 21.5'' lcd screens offering 1920x1080 rez. I'd like to try one of them out.

I have the DELL 2709W and it rocks, wouldnt change it for any monitor in the market up to those inches....
In any case stay AWAY from TN panels if you value color and image quality.
