I'm surprised I haven't seen many threads about this so here goes.

I have a 120hz monitor and for almost every game I've loaded so far, the monitor switches back to 60hz in full screen. Very few games have the option to change the refresh rate within the game. The only way that I have found to run games at 120hz is by using RadeonPro and forcing 120hz. And there are some programs where this doesn't work (3DMark 11) so I am forced to run at 60 Hz.

What's the deal with this? Why do games run at 60hz even though I have a 120hz monitor? Are there other methods to force a program to run at 120hz? Does anyone know how I can run 3DMark 11 in 120hz?

    Thanks.

I believe the issue is with Crossfire (I saw a thread on here about a week ago with the same issue). Try disabling Crossfire and see if you can select 120Hz just using 1 card.

I tried disabling CrossfireX and running 3dMark 11 and it still ran at 60hz.

    Any other ideas anyone?

Yes, I remember the same thread, but for the life of me, I can't find it. If I remember correctly, pulling one card out enabled the 120Hz option and it all worked fine. When the second card was put back in, the 120Hz option stayed. Definitely a simple driver bug, this one.

Hello again qubit, perhaps it was this thread? :p

I believe this is a separate issue because disabling Crossfire has had no effect. To restate, some games will play at 120hz by default in full screen but most revert to 60hz in their full screen state. And the only way I know to play at 120hz in those games is by using RadeonPro and forcing 120hz.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? :banghead:

If you do, let me know what you do!
