The Forest shows SFX team’s work translates well to video games

Eurogamer reports developer SKS Games is a Vancouver studio with only one other title to its name – iPad effort End Night – but a list of SFX credits including Tron Legacy and 300.

The Forest has players scavenging for survival after a plane crash, complete with day-night cycle and the need to keep warm, in the face of something odd moving in the trees. It sounds a bit like Klei’s Don’t Starve, only 3D and horrifying.

Players can choose to use stealth or try to batter foes, and enemies have an advanced AI with “beliefs, families and morals”. Huh.

The Forest is currently battling its way through the fracas that is Steam Greenlight. It’s due on PC later this year.

Yea, I like the direction these types of games have been going in..
Just the sheer will to survive.
Not a million guns and rocket launchers, to kill a million undead swarms..
Use your wit, run or die..

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this..
I'm going to post about another horror you guys might like as well. I found it on greenlight.

whatever engine they are using looks very impressive for just an Indie game. With the weather effects and lighting.

Yea, I'm all over this when I get my Oculus rift. hehehe I'd like to know what engine as well. It's possible it's unity or unreal engine, but I doubt it's the source engine. Of course i've been wrong before.. some people have really made the source engine look great. I can't wait for the new source2 engine..

EDIT: I just checked and it uses the Blender Game Engine.

Maybe, but they'd do much better making it about actual survival of the elements, not the supernatural.

Forest + Ghosts = stupid.

Financially? That cant be decided, you dont know which consumer base would harbor better results.
For the few that want a purebred survival game, it would be really cool and nice to play, even i admit i want that, but it depends on where the money is in the market.
Right now teenagers making lets play scary forest horror games videos bring more public advertising.

It does..heck even the green on the tenth hole at the golf course at night time is spooky.

Now a forest where you think you're alone, after a tragic accident + you're trying to survive off the land...I'd say fear of the dark would get the better of most people.

It's the not knowing that's the worst.

yes. how am i going to be scared playing a horror game after my character survived a plane crash. if i survived a plane crash in real life the last thing i would care about are ghosts. i would feel invincible. i would grab some grub and shoot off some flairs like a boss.
