I want to upgrade from my crt to an lcd. Im looking for a 19" regular not widescreen black monitor possibly with both D-sub and DVI. Im not a gamer so I dont need anything with real high specs, but I do photo edit and design web sites. Trying to stay at 200.00US or under.
Can you all give me some good options?

with no difference in price between the 19" and the 20" and the 21" and the 22" monitors are just a few dollars more so to be honest the differences between a 19" and a 22" are small so i would look at.

for a 19" i like this one:

Hanns·G JW-199DPB Black 19" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1 Built in Speakers - Retail $159
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254009

for a 22" i like this one it fits your budget and is a great deal with the rebate:

Hanns·G HG-216DPO Silver/Black 22"(21.6" viewable area) 5ms Widescreen HDMI LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 Built in Speakers - Retail $239 with $40 mail in rebate = $199

are there any down sides to using a widescreen? I've never used a widescreen so what I mean is, lets say im on this site, am I going to have the same view I have now or because on a widescreen the height is more narrow will I have to scroll more to see everything?
Hope that isnt a dumb question.

hey, thanks. just not sure that I want a wide screen right now, I dont know why. but those are good choices and i've noticed that there are more choices in widescreen than regular, and for the same price or sometimes less. How about this one?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254013

well hanns g is an exelent brand, very good quality and for $20 more you get an extra 3"of screen getting the 22" model but you do have to wait on that $40 mail in rebate so either hanns g you pick you will get a solid top quality and reliable monitor, if it were me i would go for the 22" for $199

Hanns·G HG-216DPO Silver/Black 22"(21.6" viewable area) 5ms Widescreen HDMI LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 Built in Speakers - Retail $239 with $40 mail in rebate = $199

Bottom left to top right. With LCD's you actualy get 20" but with CRT there's about 1/2 inch behind the plastic front and some times more.

I did, and that is the best deal for that desk. Monitor area is 19-5/8" wide and 20-1/2" in height.

wide screens are nice for stuff like photoshop and visual basic, but you need at least a 20" if you're taking the wide screen route and you want the height to be comparable to a 19" regular screen.

on newegg you can just look at the dimensions on the specifications tab. on other websites you may need to do a little research. if all else fails, use math:
number of vertical pixels X pixel pitch = screen height.
the same goes for width. please keep in mind this is for calculating the actual screen size, not overall size including bezel. JUST the lcd.
