I just went to Fry's to pick up 1gb of ddr 333mhz pc 2700 ram for my toshiba laptop. seeing as it works great, i plan on upgrading my mom's laptop memory also. Now since both motherboards on the laptop have 2 slots for ram dims. Now currently on the Toshiba laptop there is a 512mb stick + the new 1gb. Can I run both together on the motherboard or do they have to be both the same amount? Same goes with my moms laptop, 256mb + 1gb of ram?

you can use 2 different sized ram sticks, although it is not recommended, because they will run in single channel mode.

You would be better off having 2 of the same time of ram in each pc so they run in dual channel mode. (example 2x512mb sticks of ram, or 2x1gb sticks of ram)
