Looking to build a new system from scratch would really appreciate ideas for a good mobo I would like to limit it to ASUS – Asrock – and MSI if required. I've always bought Asus mobos and love their competent tech support plus I rarely had problems. Looking to buy an i7 4790k and 780ti (though when prices drop I would like to add another TI)

Not extreme over clocker but going air so I'd be happy with 10%. What really sucks is you can't go 3.0 x16 x16 on the 1150 unless I'm mistaken and in that case plz let me know which model that is and hoping to spend 200-250 though if I can get a lot more product for a couple extra bux id be willing to do it. If possible id prefer one that has good north/south bridge cooling.

Lastly, can you please give me memory ideas for the mobo was planning to go corsair or gskill seems like they got the better stuff. Current build went from 8 to 12 and didn’t notice so I was thinking 8GB is enough if you guys think different please let me know. Planning to do a lot first person shooter, MS Flight sim which is taxing, though I also day trade so any speed advantage possible is a big deal for me.

Thanks

was going to do the first but the x99 is coming out, and now looking at i7 4820k and these options
ASRock Z97 OC Formula LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard $220
ASRock Z97 Extreme6 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard $160 $145 after MIR

MAXIMUS VII HERO pci/e 3.0 x2? $205
what do you think?

PS is there really a speed difference between x16/x8 vs x16/x16(since thats the only reason im intereste in the x99) for dual or 3 gpus?

THANKS

Just get a Z97-A with a 4790K and use the onboard GPU or your old GPU and buy a Maxwell GPU when they come out.

well, look like you are not the hard overclocker
so how about try msi z97 gaming 7
this is the really good gaming/overclocking motherboard
but if you do want the high-end audio, try z97 gaming 9 ac then

Boy, another thread................

If I were you I would probably grab a MSI Z97 Gaming 5 and for memory it really doesn't matter. I just recommend getting a kit of 8GB (4GB x 2) at 2133mhz. You can go higher, but not much benefit. Corsair memory can be pricey. I really like G-Skill offerings since they seem to be cheaper, but offer the same performance and what not.

As far as the PCIe on LGA1150 that you mentioned. Cards, unless they are a dual GPU card, (295x2/Titan-Z/GTX690) don't use all of the pcie3.0 x16 bandwidth, so at x8 x8 you won't notice a loss in performance whatsoever.

Well for one, the Z97 boards are not compatible with the 4820k. If you are planning to run more than 3 GPUs, then sure, x79/x99 might make more sense for you, but you can also get LGA1150/Z97 boards with what is called a PLX chip that increases the lanes for the PCIe slots. Gigabyte Gaming G1 boards have it.

Sebastian you have your answers from multiple threads here and at another site. Just buy a board and cpu already
