Microsoft sent out invites to the press for a big event it's holding on the 30th of September, 2014. The invite's catchphrase reads "join us to hear about what's next for Windows and the enterprise." Speculation is rife about what Microsoft plans to launch on that day. The most plausible theory talks about a possible Windows 2014 launch, the next addition to its enterprise operating system family. A less plausible theory speaks of Windows 9, which is really a client operating system. Microsoft wouldn't specifically mention "enterprise." Windows 2014 could be loaded with features for the next-generation of enterprise environments, which are increasingly leveraging the cloud. It wouldn't surprise us if Microsoft took a big leap in favor of the new breed of ARM + x86 hybrid CPUs, and high-density ARM-based servers.

Yeah but the worst thing is that, we all could have got a simple 8.2 update for free, but because some very vocal internet minority/group, started crying and flame hating Win 8 (without even trying it out), now we all have to pay for "new" OS called Win 9.

Unfortunately, I am in that vocal group, minority or not, and I did/am try(ing) it out. I had to try to figure out how to make it work in a corporate environment, and my fiancee's laptop is running Win8.

All that said? It's still shit, especially for a business. Is it our fault for complaining that we now have to pay for what should have been built into the OS to begin with? Possibly. Should they have released a piece of crap OS like Win 8 to desktops? No. So, now we'll see what they do with pseudo-Windows 9.

Please enlighten me what Corporate Environment you are talking about? What functions had you had to figure out to make it work? All I can see from your post is: blah, blah, blah, brag, my fiancee's laptop blah blah blah, brag, brag.

Guess what, I see all this is kind of shit in internet, people crying out but not giving any content, examples, issues aaand that makes you exactly that person I was describing above.

And no it is nobody's fault. Complaining is for free.

For one thing, that group is not in minority. It's like with Vista, people hate it regardless their experience with it. The second thing is it has issues, my biggest gripe is the dualism of it. Windows 9 is excitiing for several reasons.

Like 7 was to Vista? And we really don't know what the other improvements will be, all we know is that they'll do stuff with the UI.

The corporate environment of the third largest carpet company in the world. That good enough? With dozens of salesmen who just want to be able to sell carpet in a struggling industry, not sort out why they keep getting bounced to the "Metro" screen. (And yes, I know M$ stopped calling it "Metro" who cares.)

We'll step down a few. How about an accountant's office. Try to make it easy for an accountant to navigate back and forth between a combination of Peachtree, different year renditions of UltraTax, Fixed Assets, and Quickbooks. Try sorting out why after you visit a BB&T website, the "Metro" version of IE won't access the internet any longer, but the Desktop version will. Try getting older clients to sort out what happened to the Start Menu, a staple for 15 years in windows products, and the basis longer than that if you've got a Mac user to reference. Why they can't download SP1 without creating a M$ account and signing in their computer with it.

That should be enough "content, examples, issues". As for your "brag, brag"? I don't even know what you're referring to. But you know what? who cares. F*** You. You're on my ignore list now.

About the account thing: Can't you roll out updates from a server or something? I'm assuming you have some serious IT infrastructure.

But yeah, the UI dualism is the biggest issue. Again, Windows 9 is exciting for several reasons. :)

Well, ladies and gentleman ignorance at its best! Congratulations! Here is me hoping for a nice debate. So let me just carry on with this monologue:

The corporate environment of the third largest carpet company in the world. That good enough? With dozens of salesmen who just want to be able to sell carpet in a struggling industry, not sort out why they keep getting bounced to the "Metro" screen. (And yes, I know M$ stopped calling it "Metro" who cares.

Yes I understand you are very fond of your company and profession but WHAT KIND OF CORPORATE ENVIRONMENT ARE YOU USING? What is the CRM you are running, applications you are using, browser, where all the carpet salesman are trying to "log" their deals. "Keep getting bounced to Metro", dude stop pressing Windows key and then right click on your Taskbar menu right next to Start button, click properties go to Navigation and "thick" to sign in to your desktop instead of Start Menu (Metro).

We'll step down a few.

Yeah let's do this.

How about an accountant's office. Try to make it easy for an accountant to navigate back and forth between a combination of Peachtree, different year renditions of UltraTax, Fixed Assets, and Quickbooks.

It is called dual or triple monitor set up. I use 3 monitors for Complex Excel Spreadsheet including Oracle, Salesforce and Dynamics CRM's. Also you can use Alt + Tab and Ctrl + Tab to go from one to another, but yeah that's I guess some sort of black magic not available for anyone.

Try sorting out why after you visit a BB&T website, the "Metro" version of IE won't access the internet any longer, but the Desktop version will.

it simply means that IE is not set as the default browser.
  1. pin an IE tile to your start screen.
  2. Open Internet Explorer desktop.
  3. Click on the gear in the top right corner. then select "Internet Options"
  4. Click on the "Programs" tab.
  5. In the portion that has the IE globe and ask you how you want to open links select "Let Internet Explorer decide" or "Always in Internet Explorer" and uncheck the box that says "Open Internet Explorer tiles on the desktop"
Also I'd suggest to add your page to Trusted sites in Security Options. Can't say you don't really give me any symptoms.

Try getting older clients to sort out what happened to the Start Menu, a staple for 15 years in windows products, and the basis longer than that if you've got a Mac user to reference.

Ugh yes I'd say it is called innovation (failed or not that is debatable I agree). And Big Companies like yours should have trained their staff to use of new OS? But I guess that's none of my business how to run a company. Plus I'm sure you've got some IT Department that have manuals and can always give you a hand if you don't understand something. Also intelligent people google things like that.

Why they can't download SP1 without creating a M$ account and signing in their computer with it.

You don't have to create a MS account, you can have your local account and sign in with it. But here let me google it for you:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/disable-remove-password

That should be enough "content, examples, issues". As for your "brag, brag"? I don't even know what you're referring to. But you know what? who cares. F*** You. You're on my ignore list now.

Yeah, yeah brag on you are just one of those pussyasscrycunts, who are afraid of little progress in their lives but hey I read there are therapies for people like you and I believe it's called technophobia.

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.
8 / 8.1 was poorly received and still has poor usability over the traditional windows 7 design. Why does that make people so defensive?

It's a shitty overall design and they are going back to the better one with 9. Nothing to start a forum debate over. Even MS is trying to rush to fix it, which thank god, they will.

srsly...... you took all that time to write that. why?
The people who need it aren't going to read your message, and I'm not talking about Ahzzz.
Stop the whole know-it-all act. You clearly missed the most important part of his post; It's not for him.
Anytime there is a new UI/program the biggest PITA are the users you have to support... and the old ass legacy apps. Most only know how to open the web, write a document, and use the one or two pieces of software the company uses. If something is slightly different, there are people that can't....... I'll just stop here...... wtf am I even writing this for....... have a nice day
