Hard drive failing need help

I have a 1TB WD blue drive that I just bought last month and it was delivered on 8/15. I bought it from Amazon and Ive never had to try and return something that went defective. Should I bother with Amazon or try getting something through WD? If amazon, how do I go about it? I cant seem to find anything concrete or someone I can literally talk with/email.

Amazon is the shit, try them first. They usually have great return policies. Go into your account, your orders, and there should be a return button. Pretty self-explanatory. Just get to your order history and give it a go. It'll be quicker than an MFG/OE RMA, and probably cheaper on return shipping (if you gotta pay it...I have about 50% of the time).

Since its only 30 days id go with Amazon. They should be quicker than trying to wait on wd to switch it.

Welp I wasnt able to actually send it back to Amazon because it actually ended the day I made this post. My question is if i advance RMA it to WD, what are the chances they are going to send me a brand new drive and not some refurbished piece of shit with gigs of space I cant format like my current 2.5TB drive?

i don't know. I rma'd a red drive with them a couple months ago for bad sectors (you have to register your hdd with them first-and its a maximum of 5 at a time), and the one I got back doesnt say refurb like they normally do. It was also in flawless condition upon scanning.

So, i can't say you won't get refurb, but I didn't. Incidentally, every refurb drive I have ever owned has outlasted "new".

LOL!!! I was thinking that when i wrote the post. I think probably a little more attention to detail!

I have a Blue from 2007 refurb still running strong, and a refurb raptor with near 20,000 hours and very healthy smart scores. I think I've got a Black kicking around in one of the units here too that was refurbed.

Generally with hdd's most likely failure time is in first like 3-6 months, after that they tend to last years. Refurbished drives tend to be ones that survived. I had issue many years ago with drive i bought from best buy, they replaced it twice within 2-3 weeks of each other. I got sick of rinse repeat and RMA'ed to WD never had a problem after that with their replacement.

BB wondered if my PSU was bad but More likely they had a bad shipment of drives or something. Not 1 problem with rest my computer before that or after the RMA

Hey Crash. I cant guarantee they wont send you a Refurb but some products that are refurbed tend to be better than new. If it craps out demand you want brand new retail box drive.
