I wonder how many people actually thought those images were real, before he confirmed they were rendered i was constantly wondering if maybe the audiotrack was in some way wrong because those images were in no way real life.

This kind of video would be awesome if they really did have photorealistic images, but sadly they don't and the vid was kind of embarrasing as a result.

Sure they do. We're still stuck with the "better graphics = better games" BS. It's why the devs can't get good writers anymore, they are to busy writing explosions. Things have changed the past couple of years sure, but still they are busy coding robot boobs instead of hiring good writers old enough to realize mature =! sex.

I like having great graphics and art work but there needs to be good gameplay, AI and in most games interesting NPCs and a good story line in games where that's important. There needs to be a sensible compromise imo. Games are getting bigger and developers are making claims that selling 3 million copies isn't profitable anymore. I doubt that's entirely true but it's their mindset regardless.

More specifically the big publisher/developer teams. The little guys working for big snobby publishers never say much about the marketing end, and even when they do, they're pretty much saying what the pubs want them to say.

Sadly this is an industry controlled by the least creative people involved.

I'm all about gameplay and story but I see people getting worked up when AAA games with"super" graphics but lack of depth come out even though the same people on forums salivate over new gpu's and fantasize about next gpu models and stuff. I like having fancy graphics, it's why I buy expensive-ish gpu's, too see the pretty colors. Of course, if the game is just pretty images and nothing else, I won't like it, but I enjoyed games like battlefield 4(until ea cancelled my account) even though it was and still is an unoptimized mess with less content than battlefield 3. If you're going to give me demanding graphics, make them pretty and throw at least a dabble of gameplay and story into it, I'm not asking for my dream game here.

mabye compared to an ultra lighting optimised sterile scene like in ads.

but I do agree that this unlimited detail stuff looks awesome.

Stopped watching after he said "real life" because it was too painfully obvious where they were trying to go with it. Embarrassing indeed.

This. When he was talking about video recordings and it's realism compared to 3D i was like ok, they are showing me 3D rendered scenes now, because you could clearly see the lighting was off. I was wondering what exactly realistic they'll show me at the end. And then he pointed out the obvious.

I also don't get it if they capture the world using some sort of laser mapping, the worlds are actually 100% static including lighting, shadows, reflections etc. Just a better version of Google Maps. How they apply dynamic lighting and shadowing to all surfaces or make reflective objects reflecting dynamic objects is beyond me.

They keep on bragging about it for ages and yet they failed to provide at least a functional tech demo that would showcase their tech. Because without it, i hardly think anyone is taking them seriously. But if i could run a simple demo on my system, i'd be sold instantly. But until that happens, i call all of it bullshit.
