Graphics Card upgrade

Currently I have an AMD 7950. The usual eBay browsing and come across a very cheap R280x so I bought it.

So the question is, should I crossfire these 2 cards? or is the R280x good enough standalone and sell the 7950, or should I look out for another cheap R280x and again sell the 7950.

The 280X is just a 7970 rebadged. It's really not much of an upgrade over your 7950 TBH.

Yes, but I got this cheaper than a 7950. Hence why keeping this and selling the 7950 one of the options.

It's also why I'm curious on the implications of crossfire as they are different cards, I presume the R280x will downclock to match but how much will I lose/gain due to this vs on it's own or another R280x

You're correct about Crossfire it will downclock to match the 7950 but the loss should be minimal. All you can do it try it and see if you're happy with the performance.

Yep 2 options.. crossfire them together, they should be compatible as they share the same GPU, or sell both and get a 290x either way you'll get a performance boost.
