Hi all,

So with my old 560ti being fairly old now i'm considering getting a 970 to beef my games back up to ultra etc.

Three questions I suppose that are holding me back

1) Do you think that is is wise to buy the 970 4gb version now when they have the 8gb round the corner/or wait for the new line of Nvidia gpu's?. I don't want to get sucked into the gpu waiting game but i'm also not wanting to make an unwise purchase.

2) I've looked at a hell of a lot of benchmarks, reviews etc and the performance looks to be fairly nice but I'm wanting to keep my new card for the next couple/few years. Do you think this card is powerful enough to handle games maxed at 1920x1080/high 2048 x 1440 for the time suggested?

3) Anyone made a similar upgrade? what was the jump like in terms of performance, assuming your other parts were up to scratch?

Sorry if this is annoying, just want to get some opinions

the 970 is the must buy card right now imo.

the only reason to buy anything else is a, you can not afford a 970 or b, you have a small penis and need to justify your manhood buy spending well over the odds for a 980.

the 970 is the same as about 3 560ti dude. it is you spending the money so only you can say if it is worthwhile but you have definitely picked the right card imo.

sidenote, 8gb cards are a marketing ploy, do not believe the hype as they aint worth squat over the 4gb versions.

Get the 970, you won't regret it, it is way faster than the 560, it'll be like night and day for you.

Also, Samsung just filed a motion to ban all imports of Nvidia cards to the US at the ITC, so, even if the possibility of the ban is very remote, if they are successful it'll make the prices of nvidia shoot through the roof (think of 290X levels last year) so at $330 you can't go wrong with that card at the moment.

1) yes
2) yes
3) I did the upgrade from a gtx 560ti to gtx 970 and it was well worth it, huge jump in performance or less noise in less demanding games.

Dra....dra....dra....drop the $350. Totally worth it, if you can't stand your current graphics performance otherwise wait for the movement to 20nm. I got my 970 because AMD does not have support for G-Sync, which again if you can afford it totally worth it.

As usual the opinions posted mostly are correct, but all fluff.
The 970 is a great buy right now and there is no good reason to wait.
That being said you need to look at your future. Will you be hardcore 4K 120 Hz or traditional 1080 60 Hz for the next couple of years? 1080 at 60 Hz should be no problem for the 970. You can add another 970 4MB and game very nicely any foreseeable game at 1080 60/120 Hz and good eye candy. Going to 4K will most likely give you textures over your 4MB capacity and even 1440 60 Hz will limit your eye candy or framerates.
I think we are all assuming you have enough CPU, PSU and monitor so the 970 makes sense.

I upgraded to a 970 G1 gaming from a 650 TI recently. Great great buy for me. Huge performance increase. The G1 gaming version was 385$ out the door. However when I bought the GTX 970 I also upgraded nearly everything else as well. So yes I would agree with DOA. If you can support it... go for it. Also a great card to OC, has alot of headroom even OC'd already out of the box.
