no, you're going for a minor downgrade, if you had a Giga 7970 3X or a 280X, then yes i would if its Brand new

Its funny my 290 had coil whine the first time it got loaded but after that it stopped.

You want to go from a 7970 to a 7950? I wouldn't.

Are you worried about their mining past? I'm running 2 cards here from ex-miners (290 and a 270x), and they've been fine for quite a while now.

Its funny my 290 had coil whine the first time it got loaded but after that it stopped.

I've noticed this too on my 290 and my 7970 of old. Used to bother me and then it died down and went away completely (as far as I can tell) :)

its fine and normal if you wanna quite it down get some RTV silicon and put it around the bottom of the choke
make sure you give it 4 hours to cure before re-installing the card
