Hey there, @cookiemonster!

Since you've already scanned for malware and viruses, I have to ask if you've installed any new software or Windows Updates prior to the BSOD accident?
What I can suggest you to do is run the sfc /scannow command from the Command prompt.
This command scans the integrity of all Windows system files and replaces corrupted or damaged versions of the files with their correct ones. Here's a tutorial that can show you how to do the scan: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

You can give it a try, before doing a clean install as a last resort! :)
I hope it helps!

Hi I tried what you said but ended up formatting the drive, before I get to that a couple of days before i had and error come up it was 080070005 i managed to sort that but when i started to format ( i use my daughters disc as it has service pack 1 on it, i use my serial number ) i got past the part where it starts to install the new files and it stopped with the 080070005 error again amd message said cannot format because **** file missing, so i used my disc and it installed okay i have put all programs back in including games and it was all looking and feeling good until i ran Uniblue Powersuite i only use certain parts of it ie registry cleaner and junk remover I checked after using each part and the icons were still there until i turned the program off and when i checked they were gone, sorry i forgot to say they disappeared last night and when i put them back manually they all had a (2) at the end of them. If you can understand this please help.

Hi again, @cookiemonster!

Unfortunately, it seems to me that you'd have to reinstall your operating system from scratch. This particular error code you stated is usually caused by damaged Windows system files and/or severe virus infection on your computer. Btw, how is the capacity of your hard drives after the manual transfer of the "duplicated" files?
Maybe a fresh install would be the best thing to do here though.

Keep me posted!

Hey there again!

This drive is definitely giving you a hard time, @cookiemonster ! :(
Have you tried writing zeros (fully erasing) to the drive securely using a software?
If it's the WD drive from your profile system specs, I'd suggest to perform a low level format using the Data LifeGuard diagnostics tool.
You can test the HDD and also format it by writing zeros. I recommend doing the full erase as it will fully wipe the drive.
Here's a link to the utility: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=OJZlq4
How to perform this format procedure: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=3LUJyt

If it's the SSD, then you can check this article: http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-securely-erase-an-ssd-drive/

i ran Uniblue Powersuite
Yeah, don't do that. I used Uniblue a long time ago, and since learned my lesson to never do that again. If you want to clean things, use CCleaner. Avoid doing things that "clean" your registery keys too. Unless you're having issues directly with registry keys, there is no reason to clean it.
I checked after using each part and the icons were still there until i turned the program off and when i checked they were gone
Don't use Uniblue :D

as for the 0x8 error, see this update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968003?wa=wsignin1.0
I had a couple of blue screens
What was the 0x error on your bluescreens? As recommeded by our glorious WD leader @SuperSoph_WD, try running a fresh install, but don't install any nonsense that cleans PC's. Just standard drivers and software (AV, media player etc).

Hi it is the ssd and the trouble is I use it everyday and I will need to use it quite a bit over the next few days I will have a go at it then. I know it is a bit late but I have had problems getting my pc to print wirelessly I can use it from my phone and it works with the cable but it wont work wirelessly from the pc could this be part of the problem as it seems different things are happening all at the same time and with software and hardware I have used for a while with no problems.
thanks RCoon for the advice but I am the opposite I have had a bad experience with CCleaner a few years ago but no problems with Uniblue but I understand what you say about the registry.

Just in case I have to get another ssd I have been looking at this one any coments.

MX100 or OCZ Arc-100, preferably the Crucial one though. Best price/performance SSD on the market (We have about 150-200 MX100's, plus another 100 EVO's)

Yeah, CrystalDiskInfo will tell you if anything is broken with a drive. All of that is SMART data. If any of it were outside boundaries the drive would have a caution label. Obviously it appears to be just fine, which is why I didn't think the SSD was the issue.

.

for the future, this. always. I only have one "Automated Registry Cleaner" that I don't scream about when I see a client using it, and that's CCleaner. I have not come across a single one (which, I really only see them when a client has used it to break his machine), that doesn't cause more issues than fix. Only use CCleaner, if you just feel you have to use something.

Hi I hope I am not jumping the gun but I am sorry but when RCoon suggested the http://www.ebuyer.com/644025-crucia...nch-7mm-with-9-5mm-adapter-ssd-ct512mx100ssd1 I went ahead and got one it was such a good price, I installed it and used my daughters disc and there was some problems installing with it so I used mine and so far so good all is installed as before so far shortcuts are still there and my printer is installed and working wirelessly so I do not know whether it was the disc or the ssd or what it was but keep your fingers crossed.
