According to the system requirements you will need a 750W PSU to run that card.
If you cant afford to upgrade both you will have to get another GPU that requires less power.

Hello
i'm want to buy a Sapphire TRI-X R9 290 OC
http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1227&pid=2091
my power supply is a zalman 500w
http://www.zalman.com/global/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=847
my cpu is i5-4670 and i have no intention to do any overclocking will it work fine or should i look for another card?

I believe your PSU has two 6 pin power connectors. The card you want requires a 6 pin plus an 8 pin. According to Anandtech the total system draw was 384 watts in Crysis 3 under load with that card. You could get away with a 500 watt quality PSU but if it were me I would go with a 600 watt PSU. Just make sure it has a 6 pin and 8 pin and above all that it is good quality.

thanks for the replies
the psu has 2 x 6+2 pins, the cpu in that review is i7-4960X @ 4.2ghz so i think i'm far away from reaching 384watts and i never use furmark

Then you are fine with the PSU you have since it has 2 6+2 power connections and I believe I read that it provides 40 amps on the +12V rail. Card manufacturers tend to overdo it on wattage recommendations because they know that a lot of people are using crappy PSUs that can't provide their rated wattage. The review here says that peak draw for the card alone is 253 watts so that leaves you more than enough room for the rest of your system.

That is fine for the system, your PSU will handle the load of an R9 290 and the 4670 without problem. As long as you have the connectors on this PSU which you list having 6+2 pin connectors then your fine (The manufacturer site shows only dual 6 for some reason unless I am looking at the wrong one).

It's under the System Requirements tab. It says requires 1 6 pin and then on down a few lines 1 8 pin. They should have grouped them together so that it was clearer.

System Requirements

  • PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard.
  • 1X75 Watt 6-pin PCI Express power connector is required.
  • 4096MBMinimum of system memory.
  • Installation software requires CD-ROM drive.
  • DVD playback requires DVD drive.
  • Blu-ray™ / HD DVD playback requires Blu-ray / HD DVD drive.
  • 750 Watt Power Supply is required.
  • 1X150 Watt 8-pin PCI Express power connector is required.
  • 64-bit operating system highly recommended
  • A display with digital input (HDMI, DisplayPort or DVI) is required

Enough, don't need to worry about. you never stress a card to the max, with games.
I own 2x r9 290 card's on 750psu, when I play some games, I never see my "watt reader" over 550w, don`t need forget my pcu 220W, right now on idle, when I browsing, watching movies, 140-160W.

Radeon R9-290 - 31A and a 550W psu, depends on setup
