The next Mass Effect game takes place in the Helius Cluster (a cluster of 100s of solar systems in the Andromeda Galaxy), far removed by time and space from Commander Shepard’s heroic acts and the final events of the Mass Effect trilogy. You are a pathfinder, a combat trained but un-tested explorer leading an expedition into the Helius cluster to establish a new home for humanity. As you explore this sprawling series of solar systems (over 4x the size of Mass Effect 3), collecting resources and building colonies, you will encounter the savagery of untamed lands in the form of cut-throat outlaws and warring alien races. To survive and colonize the wild reaches of space, you will need to grow your arsenal, your ship, your crew and make strategic (and often uneasy) alliances to fight against increasingly menacing foes. Along the way, you will encounter the remains of a once powerful and mysterious alien race, the Remnant, whose forgotten technology holds the key to gaining power in this region of the galaxy. As you uncover who the Remnant were, and the mysteries their ruins contain, you are drawn into a violent race to find the source of their forgotten technology that will determine the fate of humanity.

Collect Resources to Fuel your Growth:

Scour solar systems and planets within the Helius Cluster to find valuable resources and blueprints of long forgotten alien technology that will allow you to craft better equipment and weapons, such as improving your leg armor to allow you to jetpack jump, or upgrading your cryo-beam (laser cannon) to target enemies or do area damage around you to clear out close threats. As you build your arsenal and resource infrastructure, you will be able to explore deeper into the increasingly dangerous and resource-rich solar systems of the Helius Cluster.

A Capable Crew:

Throughout the story, you will recruit seven distinct crew members to fight by your side. Each crew member has a unique personality and specific abilities that open up strategic options as you choose which two of them to bring into each mission. For example, Cora has the ability to deploy a biotic shield that protects everyone in the bubble while still allowing you and your squad to fire out of it. Your crew will grow alongside you as you explore the Helius Cluster, and you can choose how you upgrade your crew’s weapons, gear and abilities to increase their individual combat effectiveness. Create the perfect squad to react to any situation and to support your preferred gameplay style.

Your Crew, Your Story:

Your crew members aren’t merely hired guns – they are part of the living universe in the Helius Cluster that develops in response to your actions and choices. Increase each crew member’s loyalty by pursuing missions that are important to that specific character. For example, when a Krogan colony ship has been stolen by one of the outlaw factions leaving the colonists stranded without resources to survive, your Krogan squad mate, Drack, is determined to strike out against them. If you take the mission and help him track down the outlaws’ hideout to return the ship to its rightful owners, Drack’s loyalty toward you and your squad will increase and Drack will unlock a brand new skill tree.

Explore each individual’s backstory and develop your relationship with them through conversations and unique missions. True to Mass Effect, what you choose to say will directly affect your crew’s loyalty and relationship with you, and will open up different conversations and narrative opportunities at the end of the game depending upon how you approach each encounter.

Deployed Strike Team Missions:

The Helius Cluster is 1000s of light years across, and you can’t be everywhere at once. As you develop more colonies, resource bases and settlements, you have to be able to keep them safe. Spend resources to recruit mercenaries and develop an AI controlled Strike Team that you can deploy to take on randomly generated, time-sensitive missions. Strike Team missions take many forms, including settlement defense and Remnant artifact recovery, which will take real-time to complete. Send your Strike Team out on a mission while you continue playing the main game and they will return, 20 – 30 minutes later, having gained rewards such as XP, currency and equipment based on the success of their mission. Spend money and resources to train your Strike Team and acquire better gear for them, which will increase their success rate and allow them to take on more difficult missions for greater rewards.

Active Strike Team Missions:

When you encounter a Strike Team mission in the Single-Player mode, you can leave your Strike Team at their base and decide to tackle the mission yourself with your Multiplayer roster of characters. You also have the option of tackling the mission by yourself, or recruiting up to three friends to play with you. The more friends you bring, the greater the challenge and the greater the reward. These missions will play out using the Next Mass Effect’s multiplayer Horde mode (more details on this later). These missions will include a variety of thematically appropriate objectives, like defending a Settlement against Khet attacks, or recovering a Remnant artifact off of a planet before an outlaw gang gets there first. By taking an active role in strike team missions, you can earn special Single-player rewards in addition to the usual multiplayer specific characters, weapons, weapon mods, and pieces of equipment which can be customized between missions. Additionally, players who join another person’s Strike Team mission will receive bonus in-game currency and multiplayer XP for helping others with their missions.

Multiplayer “Horde” Mode:

The next Mass Effect’s “Horde” multiplayer pits you and up to three of your friends against waves of enemy troops on various battlefields throughout the galaxy. Players fight together to survive increasingly difficult enemy attacks and accomplish objectives, like disabling a bomb near a colony base or assassinating a target. Progress through multiplayer missions to gain XP and earn new multiplayer specific weapons, characters, weapon mods, and pieces of equipment, which can be customized between matches. Multiplayer play will also earn you APEX funds (in-game currency), which can be used to purchase items and gear in the Single Player game.

Establish Settlements:

Search solar systems for rare habitable planets to establish a settlement that could serve as a base for humankind’s new home in the Helius Cluster. As you build permanent settlements, you will make strategic choices on where to focus your new base’s resources. For example: Recon Settlements will clear fog of war from the space map and give the player more strike team missions to choose from, while Mining Settlements will periodically supplement the player’s supply of crafting materials.

Dialogue:

Building upon the rich history of strategic dialogue that has defined the Mass Effect series, you can make meaningful choices in every conversation you have with characters that impact the way your game evolves. The next Mass Effect adds deeper control over your conversations through a greater ability to interrupt and change the course of the conversation as it is happening. During certain conversations, you will be able to take action based choices, such as the option to pull out your gun and force someone to open a door instead of convincing them to do it through conversational guile. Action based choices give you more options for how you approach dialogue with characters in the game and can lead to more extreme outcomes on the story as it evolves around the decisions you make when interacting with a huge cast of NPC characters.

Seamlessly Travel Through the Next Mass Effect Universe:

As you pilot your space ship, Tempest, across the 100s of solar systems that are seamlessly connected in the next Mass Effect, you will encounter new planets filled with valuable resources, intelligent life, conflict, and alien technology that all give you opportunities to increase the power of your character, your ship and your team so that you can build them into a force that perfectly suits your gameplay style. Transitions between activities, like flying your Tempest (space ship) across a solar system to land on a mineral rich planet, then jumping into your Mako (land vehicle) to explore the surface of planet, all happen smoothly without loading screens.

Customize and Share Your Experience:

Discover new things in Andromeda Galaxy, like alien artifacts and natural wonders, that serve as trophies and decorations that you can use to modify the look of your character, Tempest (Space Ship) and Mako (land vehicle). Customize the way your squad and your character look with clothes and aesthetic modifications that you unlock throughout the game. Photos you take from the far reaches of the galaxy can be used to decorate your starship or sold to certain characters.

Remnant Vault Raids:

Find and activate Remnant Monoliths to unlock Remnant vaults. Explore abandoned Remnant ruins to find and locate a powerful artifact, but once you remove it you will trigger the vault defenses that will arm traps, activate defense robots and even change the architecture of the vault itself to stop you from escaping. Fight your way out of the vault and you will be rewarded with valuable loot, including powerful gear, crafting resources and Star Keys that can be used to unlock massive orbital facilities in space that grant permanent stat bonuses.

Optional Elite Remnant Vault Raids are scattered around the Helius Cluster located in special orbital facilities that are unlocked by Star Keys. Similar to the standard Remnant Vaults, you enter them to retrieve a special artifact which will trigger the vault defenses that arm traps, activate defense robots and change the architecture of the vault itself to stop you from escaping. However, Elite vaults ratchet up the difficulty of the encounter with increasingly powerful defense robots and traps, as well as roaming outlaws and deadly Khet patrols that are also in search of the elite artifacts. Elite Remnant vaults will test the limits of your combat and puzzle solving acumen, but with greater difficulty comes greater rewards. Gain rare loot, narrative acclaim and huge rewards for completing these daunting challenges.

Khet Outposts:

As you explore planets throughout the Helius Cluster, you will encounter Khet Outposts. These outposts are optional combat experiences where you enter the outpost and fight off waves of enemies. Destroy Khet outposts to earn XP, rewards and thwart their growing power in the region. Your allies will reward you with praise and increased narrative options as you fight to remove the Khet presence from the region.

Drive and upgrade your Mako (land vehicle):

Explore the surfaces of 100s of planets in the Helius Cluster in your versatile land vehicle, the Mako. Whether you are looking for a place to set up a colony, searching for a Remnant vault or attacking a Khet Outpost, you will enjoy getting there in your Mako. Equip and upgrade your Mako in dozens of ways, like adding turbo boosters, upgrading your shield generator or adding a Hostile Detector to your radar to create the ultimate planetary exploration vehicle. Finally, get your Mako looking the way you want with a custom paintjob.

Sounds like much of the same (which is not a bad thing), plus some colonisation stuff (Master of Orion style?). Sounds good in practice, but ME3's lacklustre end-game muddied the waters for a lot of people.
Glad we're rid of shepherd. Need a new character to follow, though I got the impression a year or two ago, the next ME game might feature a Turian main character.

That and EA's DLC system sucks complete ass.

The impression it leaves with me is this game is going to be a grindfest and narrative will take the back seat. Unless Bioware executes it exceptionally well (I have major doubts), I don't like it. It sounds too much like Destiny with Dragon Age: Inquisition and 4X space strategy game elements mixed in.

I was thinking the same thing. Somehow I expect Dragon Age: Inquisition reskin in such way that they are going to replace that war council table with the galaxy map. By slim chance this could be a good thing if done right. Damn, it all depends on EA allowing this to be done right, since Bioware did alright with inquisition. I just hope they don't waste their time streamlining shit that doesn't need to be streamlined because they always streamline shit .

yes and i for one don't need any more grind games, DA 3 for me was a totally fail. They moved so much from the original concept of the 1st one i just cannot play it how ever much i love the story the game just out right bores the crap out of me.

NARRATIVE:

  • Premise: Set in the Helius Cluster of the Andromeda Galaxy, removed by time and space from the Mass Effect "Commander Shepard" trilogy and its ending. Play as a "Pathfinder" explorer leading expedition with the aim of establishing new home for humanity. Encounter "savage untamed lands", "cut-throat outlaws", and "warring alien races" in an effort to survive and colonies. Andromeda is home to a mysterious alien race, the Remnants, who've left their vaults and ancient technology throughout.
  • Game Objective: Explore 100s of solar systems (over 4x size of Mass Effect 3) collecting resources, developing your ship, crew, and arsenal, while engaging in diplomacy in order to set up colonies, while discovering the mystery behind the Remnants and racing to secure their technology.
  • New Species: Remnants, an ancient race who've left ruins and technology throughout the galaxy. And Khet, seemingly antagonistic.
  • Squadmates: Same as previous games: make friends, take two with you on missions. Cora is able to generate biotic shields you can fire out of. Drack is a Krogan.
  • Loyalty Missions: Same as previous games: complete to unlock increased loyalty and new skill tree for that character. Example: Krogan colony ship has been stolen by outlaws. Track down the ship and return it to increase loyalty with Drack. Dialogue trees and end game impacted by loyalty status.
  • Dialogue: "Meaningful choices". Deeper control over responses, such as interrupting conversation. Action based choices are physical choices to shape the course of conversation, such as pulling out a weapon and forcing them to open a door instead of attempting to do so purely via conversation.

EXPLORATION/CUSTOMIZATION
  • Tempest Starship: Pilotable ship to discover 100s of solar systems. Customizable with trophies/loot/photos taken through the galaxy. Transition between flying ship, to landing on planet, to driving Mako, to getting out on foot, all seamless with no loading screens.
  • Mako Vehicle: Upgradeable with turbo boost, shield generator, hostile detector, etc. Customizable paint job.
  • Planets: 100s of surfaces to explore, for discovering places to colonise, and alien vaults/outputs to conquer.
  • Colonies: Build settlements on habitable planets. Able to decide what type of settlement for bonuses. EG: Recon Settlements will clear fog of war on space map and offer more strike team missions, meanwhile Mining Settlements will periodically supply crafting materials.
  • Blueprints: Allow you to craft alien technology using materials for better equipment and weapons, such as a jetpack for jumping, cryo-beam to target enemies, etc.
  • Crew: Customizable skill trees, gear, weapons, etc.

MISSIONS TYPES AND MULTIPLAYER:
  • Remnant Vault Raids: Ancient ruins in two variants. Standard: Accessed by finding and activating Remnant Monoliths, explored to find a "powerful artifact". Acquiring artefact triggers defence systems: robots, traps, and restructured layout. Rewards with valuable loot, crafting resources, and Star Keys. Orbital Facilities: Unlocked with Star Keys, provide permanent stat bonuses, and optional higher difficulty vault raids that add Khet patrols and outlaws. Rewards with rare loot and narrative acclaim.
  • Khet Outposts: Optional wave-based combat challenges that reward with XP, reduced Khet power and additional narrative options in the region if destroyed.
  • Strike Team: Spend resources to recruit mercenaries and develop AI controlled strike teams to be deployed on randomly generated, time sensitive missions. Include settlement defence and remnant artefact recovery. Strike Teams return 20 - 30 minutes later with XP, currency, and equipment depending on mission outcome. Spend money/resources to train Strike Team, and buy better equipment, to increase success rate and send on dangerous missions.
  • Active Strike Team: See above, however you can choose to complete the Strike Team mission manually via play using your multiplayer roster of characters. Able to play co-op with friends, more friends increasing difficulty and rewards. Bonus rewards for joining another players strike team mission. XP, loot, and customization rewards for Strike Team played characters are cohesive with multiplayer specific horde mode.
  • Horde Mode: Similar to Mass Effect 3: four players against waves of enemies with additional objectives such as disabling a bomb or assassinating a target. Similar XP/loot rewards to Mass Effect 3. APEX funds earned to be used in single player.

I loved mass effect, even 3 and I didn't get the complaints omg no happy ending /cry. But I am a bit worried as some of you have mentioned that story will take a back seat on this one because that was the main reason for me falling in love in this game.

Also if the story runs in parallel how are the disconnected by the reapers and all the stuff that was happening there. I was looking forward to play after the timeline of Shepard with a new race and discovering the remnants of the battle with the reapers as done with the proteans or whatever their name was.

Anyway I am interested what this game wil bring and likely pre order it

I am hoping upon hope that Bioware can pull out the storymaking ability that was so strong in ME series. But seeing what was done with Dragon Age Inquisition gives me my doubts. It's just not fun! DA2 was 5 times better, IMHO. Hopefully for this they get that magic back (or at least EA has the sense to leave Bioware alone until complete).

Didn't finish it and don't have it, but I did play few times and it felt kinda mmo-ish. Can't really tell why, I wasn't doing any grinding.

I hate MMO's although i have taken a liking to Elite Dangerous has been a exception but i play it in group not online with anyone.

I have not even got to the grinding part in DAI, the 1st bunch of so called battles were total bs and found them very lame, do remember DA1 was more in line with D&D style hence it's noting like they originally started.

Basically they made DA1 which was a total hit and they should of expanded on it made the next one bigger with the same gameplay not the crap it is now.

Dam sleep fest of a game annoys me no end and makes me feel tired after playing it for a short time. I will end up playing it though at some point but that be just for the story and if they release another like it i will just wait until it's 10$ as that's all it's worth.

Gameplay wise Divinity Original Sin beats the crap they throwing out these days without question.

EDIT:
Like OMG i played D3 how many frigging hours and that's a hell of a grind and there is even less content in that game and it's better than the gameplay in DAI.

You offended the game of the year in 2014 and one of my all time favorites. So please go all the away. Witch MMO on planet Earth has less grinding then DA 3 ?
In DA, while you are doing missions,you need to meticulously sweep the entire map.Two reasons: so you wont miss on any side quests,and get all the herbs as much as you can. ONLY for the top gear items that you can craft you need to go back on the map several times in specific locations so you can get the herbs (materials) a few times. And since you are revisiting the maps already explored ,one will have to kill the pack of mobs that respawned.
However the top gear is only necessary in a higher difficulty level. On normal difficulty all you need to do is focus on your main character let the quests fly by and finish the main story. And what an incredible story it is!
Even in the case were you do want all the gear crafted (just for fun) it's impossible to finish all the side quests in one run of the map. The game simply won't let you. You will be forced to come back to previous discovered map areas. While you can come back, you pick up the crafting materials as you go, sit back and enjoy the marvelous graphics ,listen to the beautiful soundtrack, not to mention the party banter between your mates, read and indulge yourself in more lore etc. Never have i felt like the game was a chore. If anything it was so short, needing more map,more lore,more items ,more cutscenes, more everything.
The only mmo that tries to eliminate backtracking is Guild Wars 2. But it is an mmo after all. Before you know it, farming is essential so much that it hurts, if you wanna come anywhere close to having decent gear etc.

I managed to offend a game of the year ... the game I didn't even play that much to be able to judge. Damn, when did my opinion become that important?
All MMOs have more grinding than DA3, I would guess, my comment was a hyperbole.
I guess all the zoning and collecting in DA3 made me think of a MMO.

Why is this sourced from a Reddit post that says it's merely derived from a "survey"? It's sounds more like a "What do ME fans want in ME4?" poll. He lists no source confirming any of this from developers, yet people are taking it as gospel truth, as if it was a dev announcement.

Honestly, having played a large number of MMO's and (A)RPG's, it really is safe to say that DA:I suffers from an identity crisis as it really does try to be an MMORPG in many ways (you ARE grinding ingredients and (side)quests, let's face it, GTA V has more sensible narrative with most of the side missions than DA:I does) but adds in a crapload of backtracking that really adds NOTHING to this narrative whatsoever. The vast majority of tasks in DA:I serve to provide a large number of hours/played, and not to further the story. Many of those hours consist of running across the same map for the next glowing quest marker. Only the companion-specific missions do something (only ever so little) to add useful narrative to the game, but even those are 'collectible hunts' more than anything else. At least they put a reward system behind it, unlike the Ubisoft collectible hunts which are absolutely useless all the way.

DA:I also suffers from a glaring lack of complexity and depth, I mean the combat system is really quite awful just as it was in DA2. The awesomeness of DA1 is lost forever, and I really can't tell why. Overall, the whole game including its mechanics and levelling system feels like a 'please tick all the boxes to continue' clickfest. Combat feels clunky, the camera perspective is strangely limited... yeah. Great game... Sorry but it really has been done much better by many other RPG's. They even managed to make the lore feel bland and less unique than it used to be.

On to ME4: looking at the plans they have, it seems like this is the new Bioware formula and it really stinks of a Ubisoft formula where every game IP is getting forced into a very shallow and boring set of game mechanics, easy to reproduce and create more and more 'filler content' with. The only meaningful difference is that Bioware is not on a yearly release schedule with this crap, but they might well be going to.

I mean honestly, compare the copy-pasta content from DA:I with the content and questing of a game like Pillars of Eternity. In essence VERY similar, party-based RPG's. Where PoE manages to surprise and present meaningful choices and dialogue, DA:I feels like facerolling through encounters and grinding ingredients, with some narrative tacked on.

The awesomeness of DA1 is lost forever, and I really can't tell why.
I can: consolitis. All of the changes from DAO to DA2 reek of console development over computer development. The UI in DAO is very mouse/keyboard centric while the control scheme of DA2 is very controller centric. The same thing happened between Witcher and Witcher 2 (same subject, completely different games). As for why they turned DA2 and especially DAI into a grindfest, I think that's just EA trying to cut production costs. DAO probably cost twice as much to develop as DA2 and having seen the earnings potential of DAO, decided not to fund DA2 to the same degree. That forced cuts in all areas. DAI takes the same basic engine formula as DA2, changes the story, and multiplied the grinding that was already much hated in DA2. EA has a long history of destroying series so why would Bioware's be an exception? Bioware has no control anymore which is probably why Casey Hudson (lead on ME1-3) left.


Remember, ME1-3 were on Unreal Engine; ME4 is on Frostbite. They may not play anything alike.

DA2 was not on Frostbite engine, it was using an updated engine from DAO. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioWare#Eclipse_Engine

But you're right on all other counts. DA2 was horrible really, it could have passed for an indie dev's game as well. No polish, stale environments and art, extremely limited. In many ways it felt like playing Mars: War Logs in terms of quality level, which is pretty shocking in its own right if you compare the devs of those two games :p

Was meaning to edit, and without thinking, deleted. So here goes again. There was not a consolitis problem going from Witcher 1 to Witcher 2. CDPR made it clear Witcher 2 was designed for the PC. They made a console decision at PC release time, and spent the next 11 months trying to get their intensive game down to Xbox 360 and PS 3 levels of running the game. I remember being pretty happy with hearing that at the time, because it was one of the last times the PC version of a game got the drop on consoles, so to speak.

Yet, Witcher 2 fully supported the Xbox 360 controller (XInput) at launch. The game was undeniably designed around it. 11 months is about how long it takes to port and pass Microsoft's validation process. It's obvious they had Xbox 360 at the back of their mind when designing it.

Coincidentally, Enhanced Edition on PC launched the same day Witcher 2 launched on Xbox 360.

Come on Ford, your "evidence" that The Witcher 2 was designed for consoles is Xbox360 controller support? Alot of games have had that. Some people like to play their PC games with a controller. That's simply appealing to everyone. Think of reviews where there is no controller support, and they got blasted from reviewers.

And you saying it takes 11 months to "port and pass Microsoft's validation process" just refutes your claim. It's exactly what CDPR said at the time of PC release, that they would be porting to consoles, but it would take some time and alot of work. And it took 11 months to port.
