LCD mark?

I have never seen anything like this on a monitor before. It does not effect anything that I notice, but it bugs me.

Can this be removed or is it there to stay? I doubt the monitor is still under warranty as it's 3-4 years old. The monitor is an ASUS VG236H.

That would sure bug me too, but I can't tell from your screen shot if that is the whole screen or just a small portion. What happens when you have your desktop or a webpage displayed, does that still show through?

If you carefully run the screen with a soft cloth, does it change?

It's smaller then a quater. Things will show thought it but just barley.

Since it is still under warranty, it would not hurt to call their tech support.

When I looked it up on the ASUS website it said 3 limited year warranty. I know its over 3 years old so...

Then I guess you need live with it, or use it as an excuse to 27"!

I'll just deal with it for now. I don't have $700 to to replace both monitors right now. The one with the problem is a 23" 120hz@1920x1080. The cheapest decent 27" 120hz or 144hz monitor I see is $500.

Yeah, 27" inch monitors are still pretty expensive. I use two 22" Samsungs which I really like but I keep thinking a couple 24" would be nice. Not sure 27"s, even with height adjustment would fit my desk as it has a hutch.

looks like its in front of the backlight
my guess is either a cable or bit of tape came lose and is in-between the back-light and the panel
probly fixable would require disassembly to invesigate

There are several layers in the panel and my guess there is some separation in there somewhere.

I finally took the time to fix this issue because the black line kept sinking lower into the display. The problem was a small piece of tape? was falling out of place. I removed the tape, and the line is gone.

I don't know the name of the layers. It was in front of the back-light, and behind the piece that is mentioned at 2:06.
