I'm trying to run "The Witcher 3" game with a SOLID 60FPS at the very least (on a 2560x1440 resolution). I have a 100hz capable monitor (overclockable) therefore I'd like to run The Witcher 3 @ 95+FPS solid with Everything Maxed.

With that objective in mind, what kind of Upgrade must I consider for my System?
Get another gtx 970?

Considering my mobo supports 8x/8x PCI-E lanes instead of 16x/16x, Am I better off with a stronger Single Card?

You cant run the game with 60 FPS Solid at Those Settings. Even TITN X cant handle that game. if you get another GTX 970 you can reach TITAN X Performance ( with sli optimization for this game ) and still you cant get the FPS you want.

The avg fps for TITAN X at @ 2560 is 58 . so the minimum fps might be 30.
wait for patch or something to improve game performance.

I'd have to say another 970 would be your best option. For $300 more(~$600 total) you get better performance than a Titan-X. The problem is that with the Witcher 3 maxed out, even with that level of performance, you aren't likely to get a solid 60FPS. You might get it with two Titan-X's, but something tells me you don't want to spend $2000 on graphics cards.

But, with two 970's you can probably get a smooth 60+FPS if you turn off HairWorks and the built in AA. If you feel you need AA, force FXAA through the nVidia control panel for the game. That should allow you to still stay over 60FPS.

Considering my mobo supports 8x/8x PCI-E lanes instead of 16x/16x, Am I better off with a stronger Single Card?

8x/8x has no noticeable performance impact on SLI, so don't worry about that.

as said above: lower AA, disable or lower hair works, and put shadows on high (instead ultra) I still consider it as Max settings. with another 970 you should be fine. I think you would react differently on game details if it would say + 1000$ for this option at max....

thanks for your input. I do believe another gtx 970 would be nice. I heard rumors about the upcoming gtx 980ti which got me curious (I usually prefer a single beefy card than 2x cards in sli) but yeah I'm prob go with another 970. Since I live in canada right now, they sell them gtx 970 for around 420$-500$ (with the witcher 3 game included... but I already own the witcher 3 so...) I might wait for a sale to start on the gtx 970

Then that makes the price of the card $420-500 minus whatever Witcher 3 sells for on eBay. :p

And still he cant get minimum 60 fps and solid as he said " at very least ".

In order to get much better frames per second numbers you need to shut off Nvidia HairWorks. Have you tried that OP? Also if you hadn't tried that is it a matter of you not wanting to shut that off and run everything at max?

Get 2x gtx 980ti or wait for Pascal. DX12 might also make few more fps...
