As My title says My GF's Phone is constantly making a sound to notify that a wireless network is available. This is Usually not such a big issue, but when You are driving, or traveling of any kind, it will NOT shut up. Muting the sound is not an option. I've tried looking into this on the Web, but obviously I have had NO luck. There is NO option to turn off this notification that is Built into the OS natively. I've looked Extensively.

I can give any information regarding the phones make/Model #'s ,and the specific type of OS it is running, If they are needed, but Due to My ignorance on the subject, I'll just post what I THINK is pertinent.

Model# N800
Android Version 4.1.2
"Baseband Version" N800B01
SW Version N800V1.0.0B07
HW Version cyeA

ANY constructive Help or guidance would be appreciated greatly.

thank You

Yeah, thats not a solution she is interested in......I've suggested that course of action. Thanks though.

Just to clarify, I feel that there MUST be a step, or series of steps to turn off JUST the wireless notification sound. Thats what Im driving @ here.

build her a faraday cage put her in it enjoy your drive :)
i don't think your find a better solution apart from turn on your phone enable wi fi hot spot then connect her phone to yours via hot spot that should stop it trying to roam to other wi fi hot spots
down side from doing that is your battery will drain faster from being a Wi fi hot spot

edit
on mine you can turn off network notification under advanced options
says for open network notification so it will probably still keep going ping
also try turning off scanning always available

Goto settings and select wifi.
There should be three little dots in the corner of the screen, tap that.
A menu should open... choose Advaned.
You should have a list of options come up... uncheck the one that says "Network notification"

Good luck there.

Or if that^^ doesn't work, since that check is locked on mine(can't be unchecked for some reason), goto settings. Then select sound, then persistent alerts, and uncheck audible tone. See if that works. It might since mine doesn't make any such sounds with it unchecked. I just see a "Wi-Fi network available" notification pop up under notifications.

You may need to unlock the DEV tools, if you haven't, if you have the option for DEV tools.

You may need to unlock the DEV tools, if you haven't, if you have the option for DEV tools.

how do i do that? because none of the other option are viable for Me, since I have Tried ALL settings allowed on this device, and the suggestions listed above aren't even settings that are on this phone.

**EDIT** i Ended up finding out where the option to unlock DEV options was...Im gonna Fuk with it for a while and see if I can get it now.

**EDIT X2** No luck, it seems all the stuff available after unlocking DEV tools is un-associated with This issue.

What a annoying situation, either the creators of this OS never considered that someone might Drive with they're phone, or that a customer simply wouldn't mind being CONSTANTLY assaulted with stupid sounds letting You know a wireless network is detected.

I've gotten it down to where I can disable the wireless notification, but the TEXT sound , and some other notifications go along with it, and Im left with them set @ Vibrate, which she isn't too happy with. a little check box saying "wireless notification sound" would have been GREAT.

Sorry, that turning off Network Notifications should be there, unless your vendor disabled the advance features.

Should be like this:
Android - Turn off network notification

Android will automatically display a notification when an open Wi-Fi network is available.
To turn off this feature:
  • Go to Settings > WiFi.
  • Tap on the Menu key > Advanced.
  • Uncheck "Network notifications"

What make and model is the phone; and, who is the carrier.

I couldn't turn off network notification with the dev options enabled either. But leaving the persistant alert types with audible tone and vibrate unchecked, with just blink LED checked, still gives me an audible tone and vibrate for all other notifications(besides Wi-Fi network availability). Such as texts and e-mails. Which I've learned to live with. Until they start sending me spam e-mails before 6 a.m.. Then I'm going to have to address that issue.

@jboydgolfer... I am assuming that the N800 is the AWE N800

Here is the AWE N800 user manual... look at pages 32 and 52.

Quote from page 32:
• Touch and hold a notification and then touch App info to

identify the application that created it. To turn off notifications

from that application if needed, uncheck Show notifications

in the App info screen.

• Most apps that send notifications, such as Gmail and

Google+, have notification settings that you can adjust.

NOTE: If you turn off notifications for an app, you may miss its

important alerts and updates. The notifications of some apps

cannot be turned off.

Quote from page 52:

Adjust Advanced Wi-Fi Settings

1. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > System settings >

Wi-Fi.

2. Slide the Wi-Fi switch to the ON position.

3. Touch the Menu Key > Advanced to adjust the following

settings.

Network notification: Get notifications in the status bar

when Wi-Fi is on and an open network is available.

Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: Set whether to keep Wi-Fi

on in sleep mode.

Avoid no internet connections: Only use Wi-Fi

networks that have Internet connection.

MAC address: Check the MAC address.

IP address: Check the phone’s IP address.

DLNA auto-IP: Check this option to use DLNA when no

DHCP server is available.

I know it seems I am just repeating myself; however, everything says it should be there...

I dunno, maybe a hard reset is needed.
