Hello,

I am in the market for a new HDTV for a relatively small room, let's say 12x12. So, I am thinking between the 50"-60" range...I think. I don't need 4K, 3D or anything. Just a plain ol' 1080p TV with a great display for gaming (consoles and PC) and movies. My budget is around $1000. I may go up more, but not much.

Can anyone recommend a great TV? Can anyone help me with size to viewing area? I just want to know if 50"-60" is the size range that will fit my room.

Thank you in advance for all help, advice and suggestions!

I forget the ratio, but used to figure it before. IIRC, for that size room 46" would be the perfect size.

Model, no, since they change so much. But I and my friends all prefer Samsungs. Consistently, they have given us great quality, picture, price and reliability,

The old formula was if you hold your clenched fist at arms length it should just about obscure the screen, for a TV that is, not a monitor.

I have been reading a bit about how Samsung use 3rd party manufacturers for their displays and the panel lottery. It has me a bit iffy about choosing Samsung.

I recently bought a Vizio 50" 1080p for ~$500. Has 4 HDMI and looks good connected to my home server (Blu-Ray, DVD, YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc) and over-the-air HD antenna. There are some 1080p in the $750 range, namely Samsung, that I saw in person with an arguably better picture. However, I opted to save the money (I want that upcoming 1TB PS4).

As for size I'd say ~50" is good. I have it wall-mounted in a 15x15 room.

Yes, the cheaper ones, like the models specially made for Walmart won't be using the better panels.

Yeah, the $750 to $800 price range are what I was thinking of on the Samsungs, not the cheaper ones at Walmart.
