Half-life 3 "will never be released" rumour. Troll or truth?

I don't mind, one thing that happens to games these days is that they are released to often. Sure their are not many people on it "as we know of" but it's still being worked on and with DX12 on the way Win 10 on the way more the better they do wait.

Saying there is 10 people working on it, they don't know what 10 people they could be story tellers all we know and making a awesome story.

Great story's take time, a long with great games.

In the end i am in no rush and tbh as much as i loved HL2, idk like hell it's not the only game on the market and is Valve have4 not got the balls to release a HL3 i cannot blame them.

But still interesting that there is people on it which makes me think they trying to find new ways and new things to add, i do know if it came out early this year or last year i would of been super pissed.

And it's not the 1st time i heard this.

I remember valve hired a guy who made HL mods/textures long ago. That is all that dude did with his time.

Based on that alone I believe hl3 or ep3 will come out sometime.

I don't think so. I mean with such a sought after series sure it could make them money and sure it would make fans happy. But its not like valve has no money. Maybe too many original developers walked away. Maybe they just don't have a good enough story sketched out. Maybe they ended 2 like they did on purpose and have no intention of making 3 on purpose the story not being completed being a factor in how great it is.

I know, but the point is, maybe it's best if they actually don't release it, seeing how DNF flopped on its nose.
The sheer weight of expectation and disappointment with waiting, and the false premise that the longer it takes the better it should be; is what ultimately killed it.

With the legacy of HL & HL2 behind it, it really needs to outshine both, especially after this long. Is that actually possible?

Maybe. But not too probable.

HL3 wasn't going to happen until Valve modernized the Source engine and that is done or close to being done. HL3 is in the works now and I bet Newell is watching its progress trying to decide whether or not he wants to finish it. I think the only thing in the near future that would push Valve to finish it is to promote the Source 2 Engine (just as HL2 promoted the Source engine and HL promoted the Gold Source engine).

With the resources Valve has at its disposal, yes. What Valve lacks is commitment.

I think it is because they are making it to be compatible with all three major OSes this time: Windows, Linux, Mac.

Half life 2 was released in 2013 for Linux... So it is a relatively new thing for some. LOL!

I think some website was desperate for a boost in traffic so they wrote some made up crap to generate it. Every time I hear a single word about half life 3 it's always some desperate attempt to create traction where there is none.

It'll be done when it's done, which is probably never.

Edit: just to note, every time we at NextPowerUP write an article about half life 3, we generate around ten times more traffic than the average article. If we really wanted to whore ourselves to click magnets, we'd write a half life 3 article every day, but then we'd lose all integrity and credit, because it's obvious hollow nonsense.

Most definitely. Half-Life 3 isn't anywhere close to done and Steam Machines are launching in November of this year.

Bare in mind that Valve confirmed a skeleton crew is working on Half-Life 3 of "10 people." You're average game designer makes about $60,000/year so Valve is investing no less than $600,000/year in Half-Life 3 right now. That's not a trivial amount and they wouldn't be wasting that money if they weren't pursuing it. Valve announced Source 2 back in March but they didn't announce what titles will be using it or any thing that resembles a time line. It isn't uncommon for engine development to predominantly occur before design development so that skeleton crew of 10 may be working on assets that are known to work in Source 2 but they don't have anything playable yet. Once the engine is done (this year or next year I suspect), the number of people working on Half Life 3 could swell which indicates Valve is committed to finishing it. Of course they'd never tell the public that. In any case, 2017 is probably the earliest HL3 could release. I wouldn't expect it until 2018 or 2019.

Not going to bother worrying or not if the game gets made I loved Half Life and Half Life 2, but it's a complete waste of time wondering when whatever will or won't come out. If it does happen, great! I'll be pretty excited and I will look forward to playing it. If not? Whatevs!

Now, in my opinion there will be a Half Life 3. We just won't hear a thing about it until Source 2 is "out there' and not in Dota 2 form. Half Life is a story, nobody who makes a story wants it to go unfinished or just end it "just because".

Half Life 3 will happen in.... Well.. I'm not at liberty to say.
