You should be able to select the option to boot from usb in your bios settings if your motherboard supports it.(I'm guessing the external drive is usb)

Yup, look for something like USB DVD, USB Storage, USB Generic, etc under boot options (1st) in BIOS.

If the drive is USB, then just hit the hotkey to choose the device you wish to boot first when you are in BIOS screen (usually F12), then just select your drive on the list.

If the dvd drive(is it usb?) is connected to the rear panel of your motherboard, it should be recognized as a potential boot device in the systems bios (holding down f12(or the system specific key) while powering on the system, Some system info would help.

Yeah its connected with a usb to my laptop but there's only o ne option when I hit the f12 key while booting and that's to boot from the internal hdd.
