Seagate introduced a 750 GB variant of its Seven mm line of ultra-slim portable hard drives. Bearing the model number STDZ750100, the drive offers an unformatted capacity of 750 GB, while retaining the dimensions of its 500 GB sibling. Its dimensions of 82 mm x 122.5 mm x 7 mm are made possible by using the drive's metallic cover itself as the body on one side, with an insulating metal sheet making up its side-brace and bottom lid. The drive's logic board is seamlessly connected to its USB 3.0 host interface, with a single cable handling both power and host connectivity. The company didn't disclose pricing. The 500 GB variant continues to be priced at $99, so this variant could cost more.

The niche this product is targeting seems pretty narrow--I would rather buy a 500GB 7mm SSD at $160 rather than a 500GB 7mm HDD at $100. (and similarly for 750GB model)

Price/GB isn't much lower than SSDs, but SSDs are much faster.

At Amazon the 500GB costs $96.99 and the 750GB costs $130.38, BTW the regular 2TB Seagate Slim is a little bit shy of 1cm thicker than 7mm... but costs $103

The 2TB looks like the way to go if you need large, cheap external storage.

I misread the original article--thought it was an internal instead of external drive. Being an external drive, the Seagate Seven looks really classy. One of the reviewers said this was more of a luxury item, so it understandably costs a bit more.

This is a very niche item, but it is definetly better than those Passports from WD which have the normal size but have USB interface instead of SATA.

I remember when Seagate put rubber socks on their internal drives, and this external one don't have one were ya kinda think it would be most useful.

Maybe it just the picture and they just not showing every thing you get :p.
