Any hope overclocking with my board?

Referring to the system "Starlifter" in my system specs. I know I can't really OC anyway with my chip, but it will, at least, go up +400MHz, if the board allows it. That's about a 12% improvement, which I'm more than willing to take, if I can. It would help with my slow Handbrake encodes (doesn't have to be this slow, but I use the "veryslow" preset, to preserve as much quality as possible while keeping a smaller size)...

The board mentions it supports overclocking, but far as I can tell it's only for the iGPU. I need CPU overclocking! I'd try a modded BIOS even if one is available...

Yes sir, that's your board (and CPU). Was hoping there was a way I could get the board to do something, even though the chip is a locked non-k model. Sandy Bridge let you go up 4 bins on non-K chips, but the board still has to support doing it.

there is a way to do it, I was able to OC the chip to 3.6 GHz by increasing the multi. Sorry, can't remember exactly how I did it.

I'm sorry @hat , I was just reminded that the 3.6 OC was in a Z68 board.

That's alright, I kinda figured I wouldn't be able to do anything with it. Just checking in case there may be a modded BIOS or something out there I could try.

I can't see spending the money on a board just to get a little more out of the CPU, though. Next time I upgrade it'll probably be in the quite distant future... I want a strong multi-core CPU. Quad core (even the non-overclocked i5 2400) is fine for gaming and doing just about anything, but I get greedy when I do have a multithreaded app that could work something like the 5960x to its fullest. I dream of what a 4GHz 5960x could do for me in Handbrake...

if it doesn't have blkclk control you are screwed
you need to raise the blkclock most boards will only give you a extra 5 to 15mhz of blk clock
as for turbo simply set the multi to all cores and set the maximum multi to whatever the max it it will let you set

On SB (Sandy Bridge) and IB (Ivy Bridge) you can go up 4 bins above, so +400MHz. On Haswell, they nixed this option. You're stuck with what you get, unless you get a K CPU.

I wouldn't mess with BCLK. All the risk of data corruption etc that can happen, not worth it for me, especially for 300MHz. There is an option to adjust the multi in my BIOS, but it seems to do nothing. I could set it to 34 (so I thought at least I could get 3.4 on all cores, instead of 3.2) but it booted as it normally would anyway.
