Hi we have just bought a sony bravia 49" 4k tv and I was wondering if my system has enough oomph to play games on the tv.

You'd be surprised how well games play with current hardware. Granted 60 FPS solid is a rarity, but I often find I'm getting acceptable FPS in most modern titles. Be sure to disable AA, as it's not entirely necessary with 4K, and saves on horsepower. Also never turn on SSAA, or you will be playing a slideshow.

The only TV I know using DisplayPort is certain Panasonic TV. Other 99% using HDMI 2.0 for 4K 60Hz.

Radeon doesn't support HDMI 2.0 so yeah, it's either switching to nVidia, or using DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter that could ACTUALLY drive 4K at 60Hz - which does not exist (Club3D may launch one soon, but they're currently late as with Bizlink that has been touting such adapter since early this year).

Oh, don't forget to check if that TV has support for Chroma 4:4:4. HUD and text in game may appear blurry otherwise.

There still aren't any DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 converters available. If memory serves, a chip has been made to do it but it hasn't found its way to consumer electronics yet.

Televisions having displayport is going to be a rarity as you pointed out, due to the unofficial agreement among manufacturers to leave HDMI for televisions and displayport for monitors.

I'd be more worried about inconsistent CF support than the combined amount of GPU power in those cards.
