AMD or Nvidia For CAD?

Hi folks,

My boss is looking for me to build him a new CAD machine, but I really only have experience with gaming GPU's. I was wondering what other folks use for CAD nowadays? I'm looking for an "affordable" heavy hitting card under $1K.

In the past, good OpenGL support was important for professional apps. Not sure how it's today with that (if you can use Direct3D). I just remember AMD wasn't particularly good at it... at least in the past. Dunno how it is today if they improved it.

Quadro/FirePro cards usually had hardware accelerated wireframes and other specific goodies not supported on consumer cards. Is this still the case or has it changed?

The titan is on the border between consumer and professional, the 1000$ price tag kinda gives that away and in fact most of the people who buy the card do not buy it for games but actually do work with the card.
It still retains some professional grade features like full double precision for example.
