Acer Unveils the Predator Z35 Curved Ultra Wide Display

Acer unveiled one of the industry's fastest curved ultra-wide displays, the Predator Z35 (model: Z35bmiphz). Built with the same styling as the recently launched XB27, this 35-inch curved display offers a scorching refresh rate of 200 Hz. Other key specs include 2560 x 1080 pixels native resolution, 4 ms response time, viewing angles of 178°/178°, 300 cd/m² maximum brightness, and 3000:1 static contrast ratio. The monitor features NVIDIA G-SYNC, with NVIDIA's ULMB (ultra-low motion-blur) technology. Its GameView technology lets you store display profiles best suited to your game. Display inputs include DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 1.4a. Other features include 9W stereo speakers with Dolby HD audio, and a 4-port USB 3.0 hub. The Z35 is expected to hit the shelves on 19th February.

well it's a non predator line screen ... let's expect the "gaming" one to be even more expensive even if it get 1080p instead of 1440p, wait G-sync ... ouuhh expect to pay a premium then (they should do a "without G-sync" version ... even by having a nV GPU i don't feel G-Sync to be something interesting)

but it's ACER ... while i got some good experience with their screens (who still got flickering and other issues) i always got bad experiences with their laptop or desktop (well DYI or bust for me now )

I'm loving mine! Bought from OCUK last decemeber. Little bummed out I got unlucky and have a few dead pixels around the bottom left corner. Aside from that the monitor is awesome. Feels like I'm gaming in Imax.
200hz is pretty cool too if you don't mind added ghosting. Right now I'm running mine at 144hz non OC. less ghosting.

35" ultrawide is the same height as 28" in 16:9, personally I wouldn't want to go over 29" with 1080p at ultrawide, but just pointing out the difference.

G-Sync and Freesync are pretty great techs to have but only if you game beyond 60hz in my experience. It comes much more into play if your FPS is constantly changing as with 144hz games are not generally (even with extreme hardware) as stable as with 60hz which is where the focus goes for performance and stability. If you get into 144hz, I would recommend it as it does make a difference.

Would love to try an Ultra-Wide screen. But I am only going to consider it with next generation GPU's and a 1440p 144hz at least. Though I would be very curious to see how 200hz feels.

If Acer wouldn't have found the need to sell this as an overclocked panel gimmick it might be okay at best but price needs to reflect it.

We felt the screen was ok at up to around 100 - 120Hz without the overshoot becoming distracting and noticeable. At these levels there was little excess blurring or smearing introduced due to some slow pixel changes in most cases, although some scenes showed problems. The overshoot was kept at fairly low levels and not really a problem though up to 120Hz. Sadly we felt the panel was not capable of achieving low enough response times to reliably support anything higher, including the 144Hz native maximum refresh rate, and the overclocked range from 160 - 200Hz. The smearing becomes more obvious and the overdrive impulse starts to get applied too aggressively to try and keep up, and so the resulting overshoot is a big problem. You might want to experiment with different settings above 120Hz perhaps, although we felt the performance at 120Hz gave a better overall appearance.

Its pretty insane this inconsistency in response time. 51, 3 frames

Yah I'm running mine at 144hz no OC. the dark color blur way too much for me at 200hz. I do have to say though 200hz is fun and you can feel the difference from 144 to 200hz. If you dont mind the blurring and ghosting of dark colors run it at 200

I sometimes wonder if I'm the only one who really thinks that 16:10 is ideal. Personally, I fail to see the point in ultra wide displays. If you have to juggle multiple documents on one screen I do see the point, but for web surfing, which requires vertical space, or gaming I fail to see the benefit. Our natural field of vision isn't as overly wide as these displays, and turning my head all the time to see everything in games seems like a strain to me.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Not wide enough; not curvy enough; no Free-Sync support; no HDR

Will be looking forward to first ~48:9 monitors that would form a 130-160 degree halfcircle in front of me (with radius ca 60-65cm)

Yeah.... that's it! .. and I totally wouldnt mind for it being 1080p at that. That is then something like 5760:1080. But yeah most importantly the curve must be deep enough, so at normal display watching distance all pixels on the same row would be exactly same distance from my eyes/nose the leftmost pixel, the rightmost pixel and also the center pixel. None of the current "curved" displays do that...

meanwhile waiting for my Vive.
