Hi

Got the 2600K for one week ago, OCed it to 4900MHz with good temperatures
and i'm folding on the CPU with this frequency
The CPU was stable for 2 days of folding but suddenly i got the blue death screen with error code 0x124 :banghead:

any ideas why? and what the code means?

Did you get any recent Windows updates (assuming you use Windows?), there seems to be always at least one that makes computers unhappy.

Is it a one-off or always happens nowadays if you overclock?

more or less VTT is what the code referred to up to now. I can only assume your bios has VTT adjustment.

For higher sandy bridge overclocks, you will see this error code when you have inadequate vcore, a weak imc with higher ddr3 overclock, or insufficient cooling.

I would suggest more vcore or dropping your overclock to 4.8ghz.

linX is a very poor test for Sandy stability - it is more of a test for cooling capability.

Prime95 will give you a better idea of stability.

For instance, I can pass 20 rounds of linX 4.8ghz at 1.31 vcore but for prime95 it takes 1.34v.

Additionally for the same chip I can do prime95 @ 4.9ghz ddr3 1600 but fail at ddr3 2133.

Your goal should be your highest stable overclock with load temps 80c or less.

You should try setting the BCLK manually to 100.00 ... I was having the same problems when I had it set to 102.00 to get the perfect rounded number for my clock. I thought it was RAM at first but I was getting the same results with lower clocks and timings, after I've made the changes my computer uptime has been 3days and counting. Although this could be just an issue with my board but it is worth a try.

no n't always and thats why i was surprised

I'll try this one,
by the way, does Increase of the VRM frequensy makes any good in the OC'ing?

My settings is:

Load-Line Calibration: Extreme
VRM Frequency: Auto
Phase Control: Standard
Duty Control: Auto
CPU Current Capability: 120%

I adjusted the BLCK to 102 to get 4,9GHz (48x102)
Does really +2Mhz on the BLCK cause the instability :twitch:

I run:
Load-Line Calibration: Extreme
VRM: Auto
Phase Control: Extreme
Duty Control: T.Probe
CPU Current Capability: 110%

But I hear of a lot of ppl setting the VRM to 350, up to 375.

Well that's what happened on my board, it is hard to be sure so its better to clear up everything. My rig has been running for 3 days 3 hours and 50 minutes based on my system uptime tracker and that's the longest I've had my comp turned on so far with RAM at its rated speeds and a 4.5ghz overclock at 1.296vcore using turbo functions.

When I had it set to 102.00 bclk it was giving me hell and it would randomly freeze after a few hours of operation, the logs would have BSOD x124 though so I initially assumed it was RAM, but after trying out lower mhz/timings etc at relevant voltages I experienced the same result, so next boot I set ram back to xmp profile 1 at its stock and then set bclk manually to 100.00 and no crashes or freezing since.

I guess what I am suggesting is to set your bclk manually to 100.00 and then see if it has any effect on your OC's, it won't hurt to try.

The thing with a lot of XMP profiles is that you have to manually change from 2T to 1T.

BTW Random is correct.

You didnt say how much voltage you are using for 4.9? With too-little info it can be a lot of things causing the bsod.

You will probably have to up the voltage a little, to keep it stable @ 4.9
Most cpu-s have a "settle in" period @ high volts, so yours might have done that. Upping the volts a notch might fix it for the long run.

I wouldn't want to keep vcore above 1.4 though for extended periods of time for fear of degrading the chip. Unless you aren't worried about doing that.
