2x 1GB rams not working in Dual Channel

Ok heres the deal, my two 1GB rams wont go into dual channel on my motherboard. I have them in ports 1 and 2 because any other way wont boot up. I have been living with single channel like this for over a year now!! please help, thou no1 could solve this yetm


GFX: Asus Extreme EN7900GTX 2DHT
RAM: 2GB (2x Kingmax DIMM 1024MB DDR 400MHz CL3.0)
PSU: Chieftec CFT-500-A12S 500W
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Manchester BOX, 939
MOB: DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert - nForce4 SLI

The only way dual channel will work is in bank 0 & 2 or 1 & 3. If these don't work, perhaps you need to test each stick independantly and make sure one isn't faulty.

dont you mean 1 & 3 and 2 & 4?

I think I did try testing them independently, but I am not sure so I will try that again. I tried putting the RAMs into dual channel, I even red the manual to make sure and everything is correct, so I'll just check them individualy now

Yea, sorry... if that's how they're numbered. Sometimes they start at 0 (a proggy thing). Usually the board will detect and run DC automatically, I'm not sure if your board has something that may specifically enable it?

That's true most of the time,but not always. On my board it's 1&2 or 3&4.

Your Mobo manuel say's on page 28/29 use dimm 2 and 4.

ok I tried a few things just now, you wont beleive it. it seems that the system WONT boot up unless there are the 2 RAMS EXACTLY in port 1 and 2, they dont work even individually... WTF???

mine works in duel in slot one and slot two some motherboards are like this they are normally color coded maybe the cpu just doesnt like the ram have you tried running it in 2T or different timings. But as you say they wont even work with just one memory block in thats wierd lol might be a fault somwhere? Have you tried installing them both then clearing the cmos then done a fresh boot?

B. No I never changed the timings, but the the comptuer wont start up if they are differently!

try resetting your bios options to default and try slot 2 and 4 again, if it wont boot try one stick at a time in the slots that work and run memtest86 to see if theres a problem with any of them

also what brand is your ram ? speed etc. EDIT: nm i seen it at the top, has your motherboard got the latest bios and are you oc your processor or is it stock etc ?

I cant get the RAMs to work seperatly, which is odd. I reseted BIOS and no change...

could be a fault with the board, have you got the latest bios?

also you said it will work with your ram in sticks one and 2 will it not work with 1 stick in either 1 or 2?

I dont think I have the latest bios because I reformated lately ( I dont know if that deletes it)

but yea it does say I have 2GB ram, but in single channel. I will post a screenie in a second

i would see if your motherboard has the latest bios, if not here is a link to the latest one for your board, i noticed the update before this one enhances memory support so maybe this will help, you will need to save this file or run it and have a floppy driver ready for it to make a boot disk, once thats done, resaet and boot from floppy and see if it helps

Yeah, I'd definitely do as previously suggested and update the BIOS... you may also want to look at BIOS settings to see if there's anything you can switch from automatic to manual and possibly enable if it's not auto-enabling.

I notice, for one thing, that your memory is DDR400 according to your first post but your CPU-Z says it's running at 161.2 MHz (which I believe is approximately DDR333). I had this same problem with my RAM on a ASRock board, I had to go into BIOS and force it to run at 200Mhz (DDR400) and make other small changes. Sometimes cheaper RAM isn't programmed 100% properly and/or sometimes BIOS doesn't properly enable certain features automatically in many instances.

yea it is a pretty cheap ram but I will update the bios now and see. if that doesnt work I will try the BIOS setting....

you wouldn't beleive how hard it is to find a floppy disk in my house!!!
