Newegg is selling AMD's top-of-the-range Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU for $629.99 - so $70 below the usual asking price in the USA - although buyers will have to venture onto the e-tailer's Ebay store in order to pick up some fancy 16-core silicon action, Newegg's main site lists the CPU for the regular sum of $699.99. This weekend's sudden discount represents the lowest ever price for Ryzen 9 7950X3D only two months into its product lifespan. According to Ebay's tracking stats (for this particular product page) only four units have sold in the past 24 hours, and that a "limited quantity" of AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPUs are available to purchase.

TPU's February review of this processor was filled with praise (plus awards: Editor's Choice & Innovation), but the high asking price was a point of contention. This weekend's (likely temporary) discount now gives the potential buyer a little bit of extra value - with the CPU's per core price dropping just under $40, and per thread cost being slightly south of $20. AMD's Ryzen 7000X3D series has been through a bumpy batch since late April - some owners have reported hardware burnouts and AMD is currently working on fixes. Buyer perception could have been affected by recent publicity, so it is possible that Newegg is attempting to get some surplus stock out of the door.

It's extremely unlikely that a CPU will damage other parts as it's not responsible for power delivery. The only example would be if there's a short on the CPU and that damage would be limited to the motherboard and is exceedingly rare.

You are a brave man I would never buy a cpu or gpu off ebay.

Bought a ton of parts off there myself, so long as you know how to test parts for functionality you are golden. Even then it's a pretty rare occurrence to run into an issue. 2% I'd say of thousands of parts purchased.

The $699 original ask price was to much? I remember in the not to distant past, top of the line Intel CPUs were $2,000. I like low prices like the rest, but a chip of this magnitude is a steal at $699.

This is not HEDT, despite the core count, so the two segments should not be compared.

This.

Motherboard prices also need to drop.
From what I hear prices will not drop anytime soon. AMD TAX is STILL ENFORCED.

This is why you are seeing lowering the prices on the CPU Don't get your hopes on seeing MB pricing of real importance going down soon.

I'm not planning on buying into AM5 until Zen 5 drops and they will probably do a motherboard refresh at the same time so I can wait.

Competition sure is a wonderful thing.

Wish Lisa and Jensen were competing but apparently Lisa only competes with Intel. Hopefully, Intel shows up with some competition in the GPU space and we get some of this sweet, sweet competition flowing there, too.

Intel being in the market and the economic recession will hopefully force AMD to be more competitive with their GPU pricing.

AMD killed off the rip off HEDT crap, tis why.

Yea, this. It's a crazy amount of power at this low price point.

This scenario is different though as it's brand new directly from Newegg. So in essence it's just like buying from Newegg.com
