The Neo Forza NFP495 is available at an astonishingly low cost of only $175 for the 4 TB model, and it's the first SSD we've reviewed that utilizes the new TenaFE TC2201 controller. Price/performance is topping our charts and real-life numbers are really good, too.

Nice review.

Umm is the warranty 3 years or 5 years?

Interesting results....
Honestly i'm more happy with these results than their previous Controller, the TenaFe TC2200 which in my opinion based on my reviews it did performance very badly, specially in low QD (Writes).
But this newer controller does seems to be quite close to Maxiotech's MAP1602 design . Which is great, we might start seeing more competitive market in this price point, probably reducing costs even more

Great review @W1zzard , thank you. A new controller is always welcome as it brings competition and lower prices , it's a good storage drive. I just hope that they do not start swapping components soon as i have seen every other company doing , Adata , Team Group , Silicon Power , Sabrent , Addlink , etc... keep doing the bait and switch :/ they send the good hardware to the reviewers and then they start swapping TLC chips for QLC and using different controllers too.

Although I would love to see DRAM cache, considering the price and size, it is still a very reasonable package.

Nice review! However, is there a reason the results of Lexar NM790 weren't included? It to me seems like a good contender to this drive.

Hopefully these arrive en mass, if so maybe some of the other 4TB ssd will come down in price.

Yet another request to include Value/Efficiency :) (normalized to capacity)

Is this a copy-pasta error? It should say Deathloop

So nice to see 4TB SSD below $200.

But if you give a mouse a cookie - he'll want a glass of milk.

I need a 10TB SSD.

And what's wrong with that?

We used to expect rising capacity.

I bought 64 GB SSD in 2009 when it was cutting edge - and in 2019 you could buy relatively cheap 8TB SATA drive! Thay's 124x the capacity!

But then M.2 happened, with ever increasing speeds in benchmarks, but zero progress in real life usability and stagnant capacity for years and years.

Imagine they would still offer max 64 GB SSDs in 2013, 4 years after they first introduced them? 256 GB was already well established, with some companies offering 512 GB and even larger drives.

"640K ought to be enough for anybody."

No, 4 TB isn't "huge capacity". It was in 2011 when hard drives of this size first appeared at home users, more than 12 years ago.

I think if the drive is capable of writing direct to TLC at over 3 gig a second, one could argue would it be fine without a SLC cache, so consistent 3 gig all the way through vs a possible dip to the 700meg, as I think the benefit of 4.5 gig vs 3 gig probably isnt important..

Acer Predator GM7 uses the same MAP1602 and represents that controller in our comparisons

Actually it is very important for all short bursts of write activity to help keep thing responsive. Many programs have disk activity that runs on the UI thread .. i.e. while disk activity happens, the UI is unresponsive. Saving a few ms here can help

The thing is, the vast majority of people (including myself) don't give a flying f**k that this drive is not necessarily as performant as other 4TB models. All they care is that it's TLC, at a price point comparable to QLC models of the same capacity. So this puppy should sell like hotcakes.

The SSD controller market is hotting up and the number of options are starting to remind me of the days of the first SATA SSDs, which is a great thing after years of Phison being the only 3rd-party manufacturer. Well done to TenaFE for delivering a competitive showing from their new controller, and well done Neo Forza for understanding market demand and building a product that hits the right spot!

this is impressive, and it cost four times less than my corsair 4tb ssd i got a few years back.
give me two:p but still i rather want a single 8tb drive, do motherboards even support two full speed ssd's?

Yes, my motherboard supports 1 gen 5 and 3 gen 4.
But under the same heatsink it can get quite hot

Well something like firefox writing 100kB here and there isnt going to come close to hitting that bottleneck, random i/o performance probably more of a factor I think when talking about background small write bursts.

But the one use case I can think off is maybe page file performance and hibernating. Hibernating in particular as thats dumping lots of data at once and will be largely sequential.

However not going to try and argue this too much as I respect you test these things for a living, but do wonder if the overall controller performance is a factor if you seeing interactively visible very important differences on faster drives, because its not just faster nand, or faster pcie interfaces, but these controller's are getting faster all the time. So its logical they will process small bursts of data faster even if only a few ms.

I have one SSD dedicated solely to porn and that's filling up quickly.
I have 2TB worth of cloud backup I need to BACKUP to SSD for local access.
I have 4 TB worth of games from STEAM.

A 10TB SSD would satisfy me for a few years.
