Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced Optimized for NVIDIA GeForce 3D support for the groundbreaking Qosmio F755 3D, enabling users to experience glasses-free 3D gaming1 for the first time ever on a laptop. The update is currently available for download via Toshiba’s Service Station utility.

“We have been working closely with NVIDIA to bring 3D gaming capabilities to the Qosmio F755, a killer feature that has yet to be realized in the PC industry,” said Carl Pinto, vice president of product development, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division. “Now gamers can experience hundreds of PC games in stunning 3D without the burden of wearing 3D glasses. A Breakthrough in Consumer 3D Technology
To achieve a 3D viewpoint without the aid of special glasses, the award-winning Qosmio F755 3D laptop uses auto-stereoscopic display technology. Equipped with a brilliant 15.6-inch diagonal 1080p Full HD TruBrite display with Active Lens technology, the double parallax image display is able to project two sets of images at the same time, splitting them between the left and right eyes to create the 3D effect. Toshiba’s intuitive Face Tracking technology then taps into the laptop’s built-in webcam to further perfect the projection of the image by reacting to the motion and position of the viewer, delivering a broad viewing zone from which to view 3D content. The end result for consumers is the ability to view and enjoy real 3D – no glasses needed.

High-Performance Components and Premium Entertainment Features
In addition to its 3D capabilities, the Qosmio F755 3D is equipped with the latest in processor technology and premium components. Powered by the visibly smart Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR3 graphics memory, as well as up to 8 GB RAM and a spacious 750GB hard drive, the Qosmio F755 3D laptop is built to deliver robust multimedia performance. Built-in harman/kardon speakers, a suite of sound enhancement technologies from Dolby and Waves Audio deliver booming cinematic sound to movies, music and games. An integrated Blu-ray Disc rewriteable drive (on select models) offers record and play capabilities, while an HDMI 1.4 port supports output of video (up to 1080p) to a 3D-ready TV or display. An elegant Fusion 3D Finish in Brilliant Red delivers standout styling.

The 3DS does it with a lot less horsepower. I cannot wait until they start making desktop monitors like this at a decent price.

I can't wait for 3D to hurry up and die.

Yes 3d must die. Now a holodeck on the other hand would be sick. But that's still 100 years away.

I enjoy my 3DS. If they can get it on a big screen for a decent price THAT would be awesome. FYI the 3DS uses the same tech as this laptop I belive. If so it works very well and without eye strain.

3DS also has tiny screens and titles are designed specifically for it. But remember, this isn't about being able to run things in 3D, but running them well at the same time.

Can you admit that you would like 3D screens on laptops when you won't be able to put the games in high detail mode? Only looking at 3D of low res textures because the GPU is underpowered, is not impressive. 540 just isn't enough for that.

not quite. Qubit posted this in another thread somewhere. Infant stages, but nevertheless awesome that there is a working, interactive "holodeck" even if it is only 4 inches tall atm

I've seen these non-glasses 3D displays and they look like ass. What's so inconvenient about wearing glasses? it's not like you'd use 3D for anything but games and movies...

I don't care about the GPU in this thing. I was talking about the monitor.

Yes, we need a glasses-free 3D monitor right about now, but other than that 3D can go die in a pit.

I think 3D could work decently on a laptop, or a computer monitor, but it just doesn't make sense on a lot of devices that they are trying to slap it on. Honstely, I consider 3D to be the next big gimmick, similar to how everyone went fucking bananas over motion controls...
