1.Is 4850 CF better than Single 4890 ??? I would of thought so, depends on the game. Also, it's probably cheaper...

2.Is CF good ??? Depends on the game

3.Is my PSU Corsair VX450 enough for 4850 CF ??? How many PCI-E 6pins does it have?

4.Can I face problem in CF ??? Erm... no... not really.

4850 CF is quite good, but I doubt it matches a 4890. Depending on the games you play, its alright. 4850s are cheap. If you want to play Crysis, forget it. I struggled with overclocked 4850s and a E8400 at almost 4.5GHz.
I didn't experienced crossfire related issues like microstuttering or any problems in general. Your PSU might just cut it, but if, its very close and I would get a better one. Which means you're probably better off buying a 4890. Or simply wait till the 5s hit the stores.

Benchmark Scores I don't benchmark.
1. The Corsair VX series will over volt very well without tripping its OV circuit. Something like 550W+ without a problem. Corsair seems to have a build rule to build a PSU, then label it 100 W less than its actual capabilities. You should be able to CF no problem with your PSU.

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/540/8

2. Waite for the 5850. It will be ablt more expensive than a 4890 ($280), but should deliver better performance at less voltage.

Hello friends ...

Funnily enough..... I had 2 palit HD4850 Sonics in Crossfire and overclocked them to 790mhz but in crossfire you wont be able to run them faster than 725mhz if I remember rightly as thats the crossfire max in CCC's overdrive unless you mod the BIOS (but that may have changed in more recent catalyst updates). I now have a HD4890 (amongst other cards) so i feel I can pretty accuratly answer your questions.......

1. Yes, by about 5 - 10% across most games, more in synthetic benches...... thats of course is AT THE SONICS STOCK SPEED AS OPPOSED TO THE 625MHZ REFERENCE CARD WHICH MAY BE MARGINALLY SLOWER THAN A HD4890.
2. Yes CF is good, most games these days are compatible, in 5 months I didnt find a game that wasent.
3. no, simple as that, and it's borderline for a single HD4890 but may just manage it.
4. probably not as I said before

Having said all that, I would go for the single HD4890, it's easier to setup, less prone to cause you any hiccups and catalyst updates can occasionally fu*k up your crossfire configuration so you have to start again.

I have one system with a 4890, and an e8500 OC'd to 3.6Ghz. My other system is a Phenom X3 720 OC'd at 3.3Ghz, and two 1GB 4850's in CF. I get much higher framerates out of my CF system.

Your talking 800 higher clocked SP's vs 1600 lower clocked ones. If Crossfire is supported, you'll blow away the 4890.

Both PC's specs:
E8500 OC @ 3.6
4GB Ram
1TB HDD
4890 OC'd @ 900

Phenom X3 720 OC @ 3.3
2GB Ram
750GB HDD
4850 1GB X2 Stock clock

HD4890 is better, mostly because of the memory ammount. 2*HD4850 512MB will only have 512MB available, which is underkill for the kind of processing the 2*HD4850 are able to do.

Get one HD4890, overclock it to 950MHz easily and it will be better than 2*HD4850, for sure.

Yes, I wouldn't do Crossfire with a dual core, even more with a cache-castrated model like yours. It can be pretty CPU intensive.

Here is my 4850 CF machine.

Here is my 4890 machine.

I know one is a dual core and the other is a tri-core, but I have my core 2 clocked 350mhz higher.

Also my 4850s are at stock clocks, while I have my 4890 OC'd by 75MHz. I can max out ATI overdrive for 700mhz each on my 4850's but I can't go any higher on my 4890 without artifacts.

I could just go ahead and put my 4890 in my CF machine for an equal test, if you'd like.

Buying another HD 4850 is a cheap way the performance (more or less) of an HD 4890 for half the price. Any performances differences (plus or minus) are going to be very small unless you get a monitor with a higher resolution.

I am very interested in this question. I just ran this 3DMark06 run on my 4850 Xfire ----> http://img.techpowerup.org/090921/4850 Xfire Screen.jpg
Anyone have a similar setup with a 4890 or 4890 XFire they can post screens of?

Not a similar system however my Sonic's in crossfire (1GB cards) at 725mhz got me 23,400 3D mark 2006 points in exactly the same system where my HD4890 at 1050mhz got me 21,600.

Those are 1GB HD4850s, and the OP's graphics card has 512MB, AFAIK.

At 3dmark06's default resolution that doesn't matter. Also 512MB memory on 4850's is faster than the 1GB IIRC.

I went ahead and put my 4890 in my CF system. Here are my results.

System Specs:
AMD PII 720 X3 BE OC @ 3.3GHz
2GB DDR2 1066
750GB HDD
XP x64

Here is the CF 4850's at stock clocks.

Here is the 4890 at stock clocks.

Here is my CF 4850's OC @ 700MHz

Here is my 4890 OC @ 950Mhz

The Crossfired 4850's beat the OC'd 4890 at the stock 625MHz clock by over 1100 points.
