wondering how horrible Sapphires rma process is im hoping they do right buy me but my guess is just like my 4870x2 ill probably get shafted. Hopefully some ppl here can shed some light on sapphires tech support / rma process to hopefully make me feel better.

Soylent Joe and skylamer say thanks.

If you've still got receipts and all that I can't imagine it'll be too heinous. Sorry about the untimely death.

yea basically im completely batshit insane angry as i was working on a customers blueprint in cad and doing some 3d modeling for my demo reel namely it means i no longer have the gpu power to effectively use cad OR do 3d modeling im stuck using the integrated gpu on my asrock board so i effectively lost 2 accounts that would have netted me about $4000 so at this point ive got maybe $70 to spare so hopefully sapphire dosent screw me as at this point it looks like i gotta borrow money to eat next month -_-

What a shame it died but looking on the bright side at least you will still be within the warranty of it.

Well m8 you are in luck! I have 1st habd experience with sapphire and their rma service is one of the best! when my 3870X2 died they had just launched the hd4870 (kind of like how your 4870X2 died and they just lauch the hd5870) and they upgraded me to the 4870! i was very happy and they may just do the same for you with the 5870 if so you will be happy as that card smoke the 4870X2 in all aspects

For the first 12 months of the warranty you return it to your retailer, who will either replace it there and then or ship it to sapphire themselves for repair. After 12 months then you return it to sapphire yourself, paying $25 RMA fee which covers return shipping etc.

Wow. 25$? Shouldn't THEY handle those fees? I don't know much about how the various companies work, but always thought that at least the big names would be nicer to their clients :ohwell: I really hope my 4850 stays strong, because the retailer where I bought it doens't exist anymore, so any RMA's will have to be dealt with Sapphire themselves.

Knowing Sapphire's support staff capabilities at Athlon Micro, they will try to get you an HD4850X2 2GB and claim that since its a newer card, it is better.

Seriously, I stopped going with Sapphire since the X1xxx generation.. from now on its InfoTek/ASUS for me. Can't stand crap customer service.
    --
ALSO- SAPPHIRE DOES NOT HAVE A FORUM. . Do not go to any forum that claims/looks like a Sapphire Forum to complain about Sapphire. The management at Sapphire confirmed that they do not have a forum also.

well now to see if sapphire will give me an rma or not i already know they wont give me a 5870 which is bollocks as the the only 4870x2 on newegg is $360 openbox so as far as im concerned i think i deserve a 5870 for lets see NOT overclocking my gpu running it as specified yadda yadda and jumping through a grueling 4 hour email session with sapphire tech and i still get to pay for shipping and handling which again is bollocks

hmm seems NEWEGG might step up for me instead theyve said there willing to do the rma for me and im talking with them now i hope considering the massive amount of money ive spent there they might be nice and help me out as an asus openbox 4870x2 is $360 compared to a 5870 at $379

oh and for the record trying to do all this rma crap at 640x480 res is HORRIBLE

I've already told you, the first 12 months of the warranty is covered by your retailer. You won't have to pay...

well newegg is an E tailer not a retailer sometimes newegg will refuse to do rma after 30days as ive had them refuse to do so on a few occasions with some low end nvidia hardware

E-tailer or retailer doesn't matter, if they refuse to honour the warranty then they are breaching the terms and conditions with Sapphire.

Nothing to do with customer service, they are bound by a contract! Don't let them flannel you.

yay newegg will after checking there stocks will send me a card of equal value on top of that i request that emails be sent to me if i was to be refunded the RETAIL price of the card when i bought it ala i get $479 back or they will notify me before sending out the new card so as to check to see if it meets my approval i went on a tanget about how some pc hardware dosent mesh well together and whatnot so they made some concessions over all im very very happy to see newegg step up as sapphire has only said that i should wait for a rep to contact me

Nah I had a 2 different Sapphire 4850 1GB's die on me and both times Sapphire basically told me to go fuck myself. As in because they were OEM cards in system built machines they offered no warranty. :(

all i know is newegg came through for me this time if they stick to what the rep said ;) i should get a FULL refund on my 4870x2 ie the $424 i paid for it or a gpu of similar value id think they would rather give me a 58701gig over full refund as they keep about $44 or so and its evident ill never go sapphire again screw that

Go figure, anything that is OEM, warranty only covers the life of the computer, so the builder of the computer is the warranty of the parts, not the card company.
