5 seconds freezes

hey
since the other days i was messing with the inside of the putter after i turned it on from time to time (random) i get a freeze for about 5 seconds, then all comes back to normal, i have no clue why the f@ck this is happening, but online games crash when it happens, and other games is terrible anoying, any ideas?

Ps: everything freezes, screen, sound does a 1 sec loop, numlock doesn't work, nothing

Ckeck the BIOS to see if all the settings are correct? Maybe you bumped something and it's not making proper contact?

Check BIOS, then re-seat everything

reassemble your system. should correct whatever components were loose and what not, otherwise its a software thing lol.

Rule 1./ Dont fix it if it aint broken

?? What were you doing messing with the inside of your PC ??

TIPS:

I've found these 5 sec freezes to be related to one of:

1./ Faulty USB cables/devices/or controller chips. Sometimes a NEW MOUSE fixed the problem. Sometimes it was the mainboard that needed fixing

2./ Faulty IDE cables. Sounds funny, but try a BRAND NEW CABLE. The issue may be with SATA too.

3./ Power management on the HDD. If it spins down, then spins up again, the whole PC freezes until the HDD is working again. Silly really, since the PC should be able to multi-task. But if the low level drivers are waiting for a HDD to spin up, then even your memory freezes, since the pagefile is part of memory and also on a HDD. Not that HDD commands are managed sequentially. If a read or write is outstanding to a "sleep mode" HDD, an active HDD has to wait until the other drive wakes up.

i was connecting a 80gb hdd from a friend to install linux on it, but i found out the cd is damaged so i take the hdd bakc, and reconnected mine
will try all those, and it's prob 2 or 3

check ur event viewer, it might be a gpu freeze

after opening the case and look around for loose cables my drive sata cable was a tiny bit loose, i recconected, and all is fine now

i just don't get why the drive was the 'cause since i was using it when the freezes happened

Hard drive would've been my first guess. A loose connection will still be able to pass data in most cases, but you'll get the weird random freezes like you were having.

Either way, drives in general can cause that.
