Which P4 will get me the highest OC? P4e or P4c? I have the opportunity to get a mPGA478 Northwood or Prescott for very little. Which one will give me the highest FSB???? (both are rated 2.8) My goal is 300mhz FSB, and I will use it for office work mainly.

You will get a higher oc with a prescott cpu, when you are able to cool it.
300mhz FSB would be 4200mhz cpu-clock. no chance to cool it with air.
maybe you are able to cool it with a good water cooling system..
my prescott had extremely high 71°C (load) at 3900mhz, but [GOOD] aircooled.
I don't think that you will get such a high oc with a northwood-cpu. most of the 2,8ghz"c" go up to 3,5-3,6 ghz with water or aircooling.

Thanks, I hope someone outbids me on the northwood then :p

office work doesn't require a 4.2ghz p4 ;)

if you'll cool it with a heatsink & fan then the answer is rather clear - go with the northwood ;)

The northwood is way more expensive (£15) Both CPUs are OEM so I have to buy the HS and fan separately. I'm getting a thermalright HS for 478 and 939 for future compatibility ;) It'll be fine, I just want the prescott for some serious OC'ing :p until heat stops me

Thanks :D I will :p Although I have to win the auction first

This place makes me happy :) Especially the nice people

EDIT: Got outbid on the 2.8 prescott, now going for a 2.6 Northwood.. Fingers crossed :p

At the same clocks a northwood outperforms a prescott. The prescotts longer pipeline mekes it a tad slower but makes it reach higher clocks.

basically its right.. there is really a (very) little performance increase cauz of the shorter pipe of the northwoods.
but not in all applications.

I failed to get the P4, now I'm bidding for an AMD 2500-M... It ends in a few days though :(. If I get it, I'll tell you how the OC'ing goes ;)

Basically they are normal Bartons that run on lower Vcore, and they have an unlocked multiplier. This means they give off less heat, and they can be more easily overclocked (than normal Bartons).

Pablo's Pentium P.. errrr quest

I have once again been out bid, this time on the Barton mobile.

Now I have started again trying to get a P4C, There are 2, and if anyone on here steals either from me... There will be conflicts ;) Be warned.

Damn it, I hope I get one cheap, and the Asus mobo too :p Then I can OC 'till I die! or until I just can't go further

Well, now look what I did.

I BURNED, yes, BURNED my CPU to death. I'm not sure how, but I did. That's the second in less than 6 months. Now I have to spend money on a new one :( Oh well.

You gotta be more carefull dude i suggest you buy a water cooling setup with your new cpu :D
Or get a P4C nothwood they don't get that hot and you will prolly hit your max oc before you hit the max temp :)
