If I have time I'll make one up for the heck of it.

To you guys using newegg, shipping to TN charges sales tax. Unless if shipping it to Kentucky isn't much of a hassle, using zipzoomfly would save you 50-60 bucks.

for the record....

rosewill and other no name psu's almost always dont hold the test of time.

no one has thought of the wd 3200aaks thats very snappy and plenty of space for a typical person.

A LOT of the parts most of you picked are mid range components not necessary for this kind of build. you could save some money by getting standard but decent components.

98% of these are AMD builds... nothing wrong with that but it seems that no on is even considering intel. i have gone through newegg and built a damn good low-mid range intel machine for ~$600 easily.

intel atom is not slow as you think. its very comparable to intels 45nm dual core cpu's while keeping cool and using low power.

a lot of ppl are going with 4gb's of ram which is not really needed in an internet computer. although, i know the price is getting low enough that 4gb is only a bit more than 2gb.

i like the idea of a quad core rig but its simply not needed for an internet computer.

rebates are not always recieved and should not be counted in the final cost. alot of these builds are over budget because of the rebates.

that said...

i say CDAWALL has the best build so far. i would swap the 250gb seagate out for my suggested wd3200aaks which adds another $5 but thats still within the $25 overage you mentioned. very nice pick on the monitor although it may not be entirely necessary. also... i want to mention that the atom 330 is dual core with HT so its basically a mini quad that uses almost no power to run. you should be able to OC it a tad as well.

:)

WTF taxes in TN?

Great DVD burner, used it in builds 3 times for people, reliable, tough.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147010
Excellent case, albeit cheap, the power supply is sturdy as hell and the edge are, from my experience, very smooth and the case itself is sturdy. I've used it in 6 builds and would recommend it over and over again.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999151
Quiet, non flashy fans, buy two to mount in the case, move plenty of air!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136113
250gb HDD. Runs cool and quiet, no vibration or anything, WD has a great warranty and if it's for a non-gaming girl she'll likely not need more than this.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236050
2ms 16:9 1080P, BEAUTIFUL display, worth every penny, albeit a tad pricey.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186141
I use this board for every AMD build I do, it's sturdy, reliable, no problems that I've ever found.

Good memory, plenty of it for XP or Vista, for casual use. CAS4
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103255
Good, cool running processor, overclocks surprisingly well, beautiful, quiet, stunningly fast.

Now this leaves you with money to spare at 550$ after shipping and tax.

Possible upgrades:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144236
More RAM, from GeIL or your manufacturer of choice.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103300
AMD Kuma 2.7ghz AM2+ (adds 1066 memory support)
A good pair of speakers perhaps?
A bigger HDD?

THE CHOICE IS YOURS!

I stand corrected, I just wish we used the metric sys and anything else, like the date format here, I like logical systems. Where's the emoticon for putting my foot in my mouth :toast:
