really. 7950 works just fine, 9800gx2 works just fine. but the 680, when the 8 pin is plugged in, the system wont start.

the system also works if the 6 pin power is plugged into the 680

okay we have a misunderstanding here. the 7950 and the 9800gx2 work fine, as in, the power plugs plugged into them work. the gx2's 8 pin works with all of my PSU's 8 pin connections.

have you tried using the other 8-pin connectors of your PSU?

Because honestly it's the first time I heard of a card working well, even while gaming, without its 6 or 8 pin PSU power plugged in. Normally when that cable isn't plugged in the card would emit a screeching sound.

Misunderstandings come from a lack of information. What are you saying? You seem to be responding to someone from a different thread in this thread you created.

Are you using a 6 pin instead of an 8 pin?

Are you just using a 6 pin and not connecting the 8 pin?

Why would you not connect the power connectors?

Lets not forget the fact, your 680 was drenched in water from your water cooling fiasco.

i was doing it as sort of a troubleshooting thing. 8 pin wont work, both power connectors wont work, but 6 pin or none at all boots the system

no hes right. water got on the card but i let it sit for 3 days in rice before touching it. its completely dry now. its possible the water shorted out the 8 pin and killed it and no amount of drying is going to help but i wanted to at least ask

So.... Not really any point to this thread other than saying the card you broke boots without power connectors hooked up and you're returning it. Great.

    Thread off.
