750w for old and new!

So I feel like slapping my 5870 and 660 together side by side for fun, and I have a 750w PSU to run them on. Should I have any issues?

bah a 750w could drive 2 R9 290 with a decent OC so ... why not and yep ... might be a why not : 660 for Physx (not that Physx is a real useful tech ..) and 5870 for image ... or .... even worse : geting more than 3 screen (limitation with the 660 iirc) by adding a separate 5870 to drive the other monitor and alleviate the load on the 660 :roll:

I think the psu should not be an issue but you will need some special drivers to enable them to run side by side.
Did you want the 5870 as the primary card and the 660 for physics or something like that.
I've seen that done before but it wasn't easy.

750w PSU doesn't say much actually. It could be a shitty one, or a top notch quality.

Mind telling us brand/model and/or 12v amperage?

So, 62.5A @ 12V .

I really don't know the exact consumptions, but it seems to be 150w for 660 and 200w for 5870. Add CPU and some extra and you will have around 50% load. That Rosewill is very good quality

4790k, 4 HDDs, a SSD, a few fans...

4790k non-OCd is 88w. HDDs are variable, but normally don't need more than 2A peak from 12v rail. Fans are variable too, but I wouldn't consider anything above 5w each, a regular CM 120mm fan consumes 1.8w. SSDs consume practically nothing (and I can't remember correctly right now, but most are on the 5v rail? or are those only the mSata ones?)

So, worst case scenario, with no OC (on GPU and CPU) is 530w + fans. So yeah, still have room to OC everything and stay on the safe area.

With those specs, I can see the 5870 outpowering my 660 if overclocked correctly.

I didn't say it came from a loving home, lol. I said it worked great.

To be fair, I didn't even try. I mean it was called "Chernobyl" for a reason, whole thing was held together by duct tape and good wishes...

I still forget why there's an AC power brick in there (look under the HD), but I'm sure I had a reason...
