    The 8800GS is a trimmed-down 8800GT with 96 stream processors (the rest have 112 or 128, except the old G80 8800GTS models). It's the same thing as a 9600GSO.

at stock speeds the 8800GS's are usually like 5% slower or equal to the 8800GTS(G80's) but when overclocked the GS overtakes the GTS easily, most will overclock about 150 to 180mhz on their core from reference and about 710mhz/1700/1000 they are about as fast as the 8800GT.

I would say avoid the 9600GSO's they are not really the same cards anymore, their are G94 versions with 16 rops 48sp and ones with 8 rop 48sp and the standard 8800GS rebadge version which stopped production right after launch, you play a game of chance buying one unless you really do your research.

are you looking into buying a new card.

no crap, the new 9600GSO's are pieces of shit. can't believe how ruined its name. it used to be a dam nice card for the price but then...nvidia shit on it which disabled half the SPUs, ROPs, the memory bus of 192 to 128 WTF!!!

if u can find an 8800GS or one of the first 9600GSO's then yea its a quality card for sure and as stated when oc'd they compete or are on the same level as the 88/9800GT
