Hello,

I got an EVGA 980 Ti (https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/evga-gtx-980-ti-superclocked-acx-2-0.b3323) off of eBay a few months back. I made sure it output a picture, then I repasted and put new pads on it, as it was hitting 80 degrees C during testing. (For those wondering, I used MX-6 and TP-3 pads.) Now the temperatures are much better, they barely hit over 60 C when under 100% load. But when I play a game like Fortnite or Forza Horizon, the GPU crashes randomly. It doesn't really matter how long I've been playing, but the game crashes. This even happens with Minecraft sometimes, though more rarely. Once or twice I got an error message saying something about an unreachable memory block, so I think one of the VRAM chips is probably dead. The GPU itself is bent a little bit, but it fits. I didn't push very hard to get it to screw into the pcie cover slot, but still it could be something. It works for a lot of the time, but especially when I move in-game it crashes, at least I think. Feel free to ask me for more info. I'm thinking to upgrade to a 4060 soon. One last thing I noticed, the Bus Interface is lower than it should be I think. Is this normal or no? And is this more likely a mobo or GPU problem? This is the screenshot of GPU-Z.

Hi,
You can open hwinfo64 as well and run gpu-z render test and compare mine
I have a before render and during of both gpu-z readings
980ti render and voltage info-1.png

But yes bus interface is different.

Might try another slot if you have one ?

There is a place to put system specs in your profile.

It is very weird that it is connecting at PCIe x2 3.0. Usually power saving will downgrade to 1.1 speed while still running a full x16, or downgrade fully to a x1 1.1 connection. I agree with Toothless, start by removing and inserting it again. Make sure it is 100% in the socket and secured with the clip. I have encountered motherboards where I had to press on the backside of the PCIe socket area of the motherboard to get the darn GPU to seat properly.

I made sure the GPU was seated properly and it snapped into place. I tried to push pretty hard but it wouldn't go in anymore, then I ran FurMark and had HWiNFO64 and GPU-Z run at the same time. I had Chrome open also, but it crashed after a couple of minutes. I closed Chrome and it ran FurMark for a little while, then I got these screenshots and closed it. I also took pictures of the GPU and the PCIE slot. The just GPU-Z screenshot is before I ran FurMark:

Hi,
Only way to tell if it's the mother board or gpu is install another of either to rule out the other possible fault.
In other words buy a 4060 if it works it's the 980ti fault.

Okay. I had a 960 before this and it worked fine, so I'm hopeful its just the 980 Ti

Hi,
Trying to run superposition 8k preset you'd get a warning you're out of memory and it may crash lol
So yeah same app at 4k should be fine.

By the way you need to expand all the powers and voltage on hwinfo.

So I should run FurMark in 7680x4320? I play fortnite and forza at 1080p even though I have a 1440p 165 hz monitor. Do you want me to redo the screenshot of the stresstest with HWiNFO64?

How would I do that? Would I use EVGA Precision X1 or MSI Afterburner? Also it doesn't happen right when I launch the game, it happens seemingly randomly

I prefer msi ab with the tech afterburner skin and just use slider apply if works save a profile.

Software A lot.
Benchmark Scores Its fast. Enough.
Downclock.25Mhz then run afterburner, if it crashes lower it another 25Mhz and keep going, if it isn't stable after 200Mhz try https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/712931/how-can-i-test-my-gpu-ram-integrity

If it's a "bad" memory chip it might be a candidate for a custom BIOS, but don't F around and find out by doing it without help, or it ****might*** be a candidate for a bake to reflow solder on the pads since years of heat and PCB flex, again don't F around and kill it, there are people here who know how to help.

Benchmark Scores It's linux baby!
I have to wonder what that poor thing has been through. I still run a gtx980ti. I can run it at 1500 clocks and it still does just fine......
And no don't run furmark. And don't push ram more than +200... I'll have to go back and check my records....

So I should run FurMark in 7680x4320? I play fortnite and forza at 1080p even though I have a 1440p 165 hz monitor. Do you want me to redo the screenshot of the stresstest with HWiNFO64?
Hi,
Not sure where you got that out of my statement hehe
I said superposition dude not furmark lol

But hell you could just go by my screen shot and run gpu-z basic render for a little while but you went on with furmark and chrome ... crash ....

Anyway seems there is some serious language issues here so I'll bail good luck.
Buy a 4060 like you said you wanted to.

all 980ti's fail this way before finally melting an R34 inductor.

My 1070 is immortal but I feel like most 250+ watt cards are gonna have limited shelf life. I foresee 1080ti’s dying in en masse, 2080 ti’s, 6800xt’s, etc, but 3070’s might last a decent bit longer (Non-Hynix? : / )
