With your CPU and monitor you will notice little if any difference. If you choose a 9800 GTX+ there are better deals to be had:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162021

In the price range of the XFX 9800 GTX+ there are way better deals as well:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127361

On top of that the HD 4870 has a Black Friday special code that gets it down to $199.99 WITH a $15 MIR. $184.99 is just silly good - no reason to go for that 9800 GTX+. Code's on this page:

http://promotions.newegg.com/NEemai...mmc=EMC-IGNEFL112808-_-email-_-E0-_-PromoWord

Again, you'll be kind of hamstrung by your set up (a little) regardless what you choose.

9800GTX+ will handle Crysis 1920x1080 at around 25-30fps

9800GT is an 8800GT and shouldn't even be considered honestly..

It's almost like asking if you should get an 8500GT or an 8800GT..

I have the GTX+ and all in all I am satisfied, honestly you should check some for sale forums, you could grab one for 150 or so. I know there is two on [H] right now for around that price.

9800gtx+ pwns the gt badly. But you should buy a 4850 which is neck to neck with the gtx+ and also cheaper.

In a state of flux...
I'd sooner take the 9800GTX+ as it runs A LOT cooler than the 4850, the GTX+' cooler is superior and for me better due to not wanted to mod the video cards cooling. :)

yeah but there it have two cons. one - its dual slot and two - it uses 2 power pcie cables

also the 4850 are designed to run at their hot temps so its not a problem :):)

true but this man is considering SLI for a future upgrade, therefore HD 4850 should be out of question, if he didn't have a 750i then i'd say HD 4850 all the way since i thk they scale better than the GTX+ anyways but yea 9800GTX, this man wants SLI:laugh:

He was talking about SLI so 9800GTX+ is the way to go..

HD4850's cooling is perfectly fine even with the reference cooler, I have pulled 740/1050 on the stock cooler without insane fan speeds. People need to stop blabbing about it running too hot, they run perfectly fine, just run hotter before the fans kick up. Even at 740/1050 mine never passed 65c @ 60%.

You can also change the fan speeds with the CCC now so its really no mod required or 3rd party software.

Also lastly, as someone who has dealt with probably 30 9800gtx's and going on my 16th 9800gx2 setup they both run pretty hot themselves without fan speed modifications.

I believe the 9800GT has a noticeable increase in performance, despite the same G92 architecture.

Nope, they are in fact slower. Why, because most 9800GT's are stock and most 8800GT's were OC'd from factory. I wouldn't be surprised if 9800GT also OCs worse, as 8800GT was based on 8800GTS PCB and 9800GT PCBs look so sparse.

Nah they run the same I had a customer argue with me about the 9800gt being better and so I sold him one to replace his 8800GT, both XFX cards, he was pissed and said he was going to report me to the BBB because I told him 15% restock fee.

given the question why do so many people suggest a 4850, its pretty obvious he doesn't want one.

It's almost like asking if you should get an 8500GT or an 8800GT..

Whilst I agree with you on American pricing here in the UK it is a different matter. The 8800GT can be picked up with £80 wheras a 9800GTX+ is over £130. Whilst there is a peformance difference (circa 25% depending on the game and the 8800GTs clocks) it isn't worth the difference in price (especially considering a HD4850 can be pikc up for £115.

Your second point maes no sense either.

a huge +1 on that.

The 8800GT is the card to get over here in the UK if your on a budget - can handle crysis within its limits and max everything else out.

He is directly linking Newegg, and says he wants SLI....

It makes perfect sense, the 9800GT doesn't compare to a 9800GTX+...

As I said the 9800GTX+ is a superior card by a good margin.

The point is, its almost like asking should I get an 8500Gt or an 8800Gt..
And here is why it's alike the same, you are comparing cards from pretty much a completely different line... A 9800GT is a entry level gaming card, a 9800GTX+ is mid level gaming card.
Now if the question was between a 9800GTX+ and HD4850 it would be a better question.
Bang for your buck, that's another way to look at it but that wasn't the question.

Nothing was said about budget and it was noted **future proof**

honestly i would say that a 9800GT 1gb could work well as most oc to the 750mhz core / 1800mhz shaders region.

this would bring the 9800GT within sniffing distance of a stock GTX+, naturally if you oc the GTX+ theres no competition again.

having said that i am a big believer in more rather than less, even if games dont use 1gb now, its only a matter of time. i would never criticize anyone for doubling up on memory of any component, unlesss the OS restricts the use of said extra memory (i.e 8gb of ram in XP :p)
