9800GTX +Amp Edition (Zotac) 6pin vs 8pin

I just want To ask if 6pin Connector and 8pin Connector are different of power consumption since i got 9800GTX which has 8pin Slot but i only had 6pin Connector PSU 550Watts..

and my 9800GTX is too Slow on processing games like Dota 2.. so i want to know if 9800GTX will be good at 8Pins or totally required 8pins to maximize the performance of this Card..

now im using 9800GT running dota 2 without problem unlike 9800GTX on 6pin connected

8pin can be connected with 6+2pins. maybe you have that? just a thought

They are the same voltage, and powerwise your PSU should be able to handle that 9800GTX.

However are you sure its the graphics card thats slowing the game down? Dota is quite heavy on the CPU, and while old, the 9800GT still isn't the worst card to have for Dota.

Could you fill in your system specs please?

If the power connector isn't melting with 6-pins, you probably won't notice a difference with 8.
In all seriousness, that's an old GPU. I wouldn't expect it to run all that great in general.

You can't compare difference architectures like this. You can only really compare overall performance. That said your point about the 9800GTX performance relative to todays cards does stand.

Actually he can because he's showing the difference between the two cards. The newer GTS 600 card will perform better because of said architecture improvements so it's actually probably a bigger gap than you think. The point is that the 9800 GTX is old and antiquated.

Dota 2 should run freely on a 9800GTX provided you have a good CPU.

you can max out DOTA 2 graphics pretty much on any gpu. its not that intensive at all.

heck even my friend is able to max dota 2 with 1280x800 with an intel iris 5100 graphics

Yes, there is a difference between a 6 pin and a 8 pin connector on your PSU. You have a 6 pin connector on your PSU. The 6 pin is rated for 75 watts and the 8 pin is rated for 150 watts. Since you are having a problem with the 8 pin 9800GTX but no problem with the 6 pin 9800 GT then I think your 9800 GTX isn't getting enough power to function properly. The problem can be fixed using molex adapter
