I have always sold my tech purchases back to companies for pennies on the dollar or taken the charity write off, unfortunately with a divorce and all my budget the last few years has been almost nothing, but its getting better, twas just a flesh wound!!!!

Not back to newegg or the like, but back to companies I would do builds for, through my company.

I think something is going to come out whether it's a 790 or something like a Titan Ultra because something is going to need to fill the gap between now and the 8 series as the "king" card, and the Titan is aging in its current $1k spot.

Will whatever comes out be worth the money vs performance? Probably not, but Nvidia is always going to have a card to cater to the upper computer elitists whether the performance is worth the price because there is a big market for consumers who simply want "the best". I'm quite interested to see what they may come out with because it may drive some prices down.

Always seems pointless to buy beyond a $400 card just in my experience. Each generation or two completely stomps the last.

'GTX 790 will actually be slower than 2 x GTX 780, not 780 Ti nor TITAN because of its lack on ROP.'

don't forget that Nvidia could compensate the lack of bus and rop with an increase in memory speed, just like Gtx 780 vs 780Ti
    320 x 7000 = 2240000
    384 x 6000 = 2304000

    so just 2% difference
Gpu clock for clock GTX 790 should be faster than 2 x GTX 780

Yes but clocks matter. Do we know the clocks yet?

the 780 of nvidia does not have new things like the latest r290 of ati aka Mantle with its asm coding or the new trueaudio .
i have no idea what they are but i feel the r390 with 2 gpu will be a killer at all levels :]
price of 780 compared to r290x already being one

uh 780 is cheaper even than the 290 non X price gouging by retailers has Nvidia's GTX 780 being more attractive in terms of price performance than the 290 or 290x

Hell on Newegg the 290 is $100-150 higher than its launch price

290 X is priced closer to the 780 Ti which eats its lunch

no one uses Bitcoins here either except Overstock.com but I digress

    GTX 780Ti reference 669
    GTX 780Ti non reference 700

    290X reference card is $600-649
    290X non reference is $700

    290 reference $500-539
    290 non reference $579

    GTX 780 reference $489-519
    GTX 780 non reference $489 - 559

overall Nvidia holds the far better price performance option in North America by far.
