a new ISP help!!

hey

i dont know if this is the right place for the thread sorry if it isnt

i live in the uk i need help with a new broadband provider im currently with tiscali homchoice (originally homechoice but tiscali recently bought them) and basically the internet has been RUBBISH for past 2 months i mean everytime i try doing anything the internet craps out i think its due to latency i cant play any games properly anymore like css i get connection problem after about 10 mins of play then more i retry more faster it disconnects

annoying thing is when i call support they say i have to phone when the problem is happening how can i when the net does this every 2 mins then works fine again after 5 mins then does it again and it took about 20 minutes for support to pick up

anyway anyone can recommend me with decent unlimited ISPs in the uk im planning on spending about £20 max a month on broadband minimum is 2mb

i hear virgin medias good any ideas?

btw ive been with homechoice/tiscali for one and half years now

Im with Pipex mate, never had any down time, have been @ 2Mb for 2 years and its been great! Have just upgraded to 8Mb but havent seen the increase yet and I pay £20 per month for unlimited bandwidth!

im with plusnet, its pretty good, but has just recently been bought out by bt,nothings changed YET though, they give 8 meg too, and the 'fair use policy' is better than most

Is this DSL or cable? If its DSL, could be not enough filters on the phone lines (if you have one running to your tv for satellite or what have you, it needs one, it needs one on the main line running from the wall to the dsl modem/router and placed in the correct hold spot for it, etc) Also, in the expert mode (not sure how it works in UK, going off of US and Bellsouth(AT&T) high speed DSL internet, switch the connection from ON-DEMAND to ALWAYS-ON. Most routers/modems come set to ON-DEMAND and Im not sure why. That was several reasons why I Was getting kicked off. I was also kicked off because of the way Windows OBtained my IP Automatically, so I created me a static ip and reset my modem (shutdown pc, unplug modem, wait 1 minute, plug modem in, wait 1 minute, turn on pc, and everything syncs). That could probably.

wareagleau its DSL and its been running fine for past year i checked everything out theres no problem i can find at all i think its just bad service or a usage limit thing (it used to be unlimited)

Virgin Media is the ONLY broadband you should consider in the UK if you play games online. As it is cable it is very low latency, I constantly get people on CSS accusing me of rate hacking because I get pings of 5-15 all the time. The service is brilliant, and the only outages are planned and you are told about months prior, and they are always in the eraly hours of the morning so to incovenieve as few people as possible.

£18 a month will get you 2Mb and £25 will get you 4Mb (if you can stretch, I know you said £20 a month max.)

Also there is NO fair-usage policy, or download limits of any kind.

Cable is the way to go, no doubt about it.

Oh, and it's a true 2mb connection, not "up to" shit

thanks yea a couple of friends got virgin media and they say its good but they dont game you cleared up alot of things for me i think ill go with them then

I've had Virgin Media since nTL first launched their service (before Virgin bought them out) and I would never even consider going back to ADSL or DSL or whatever crap they use currently.

I cant get cable where I live so, ADSL is the only way I can get high speed broadband! Once my 8mb service goes active I will be very happy with my connection!

Yeah I do my fair share, mainly FSX @ the mo, but have no problems with GTR2 or Toca3, etc!

If you can get cable then go for it, I would in your shoes
