ABIT Computer Corporation, maker of high-performance motherboards and PC peripherals, today announced a definitive agreement to enter a long-term strategic partnership with Universal Scientific Industrial Co., Ltd. (USI), leading global company in the DMS industry. USI is recognized as the strategic DMS partner for global brands in the 4C (Computing, Communications, Consumer Electronics and Car Electronics) industries. Integrating its core technologies of Computing, Wireless Communication and Video/Audio Processing, USI offers high quality, value-added and cost-competitive products covering 4C application fields. This merger enables USI to effectively penetrate the retail motherboard channel with the world’s 4th largest branded motherboard maker, and allows ABIT to leverage a world-class manufacturing and service network.

By partnering with USI, ABIT is able to enjoy several key advantages. USI has been manufacturing a wide range of IT-related products with an OEM portfolio that contains Global PC, Communication and Automotive Electronics clients. Their manufacturing prowess is well suited towards ABIT’s pursuit of engineering excellence, and will ensure that ABIT motherboards will maintain the strict level of quality that ABIT users have been accustomed to over the years.

Established in 1976 and publicly traded on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE), USI has reached revenues of $53B NTD ($1.6B USD) in 2004, and boasts a worldwide workforce of 10,000 employees. As a member of the ASE Group, the world's largest provider of independent semiconductor manufacturing services in assembly and testing, USI has more than 10 years experience in the design, manufacturing and after-service support for PC related products. This level of financial and corporate stability ensures that ABIT can continue to deliver ABIT Engineered products to PC enthusiasts worldwide.

Maintaining the motherboard industry’s best reputation for after-sales service was an important consideration when selecting the right partner for ABIT. With 35 branch offices, logistics, and RMA centers across 12 countries, the global reach of USI’s support network is undeniable, and will help ensure that ABIT users can continue to receive service that has been heralded as the best in the motherboard industry.

“The partnership with USI marks a new, exciting chapter in ABIT history,” notes Jason Hsu, Executive Vice President, ABIT Computer Corporation. “The past 15 months have certainly been trying times for ABIT, and we have to thank all the ABIT fans around for the world for their undying support throughout this most difficult period in ABIT’s history. Now, with USI’s manufacturing excellence and economies of scale, coupled with ABIT Engineering and innovation, we are confident that our combined resources will produce our most exciting ABIT products ever. To those who have stuck with us, we thank you -- the best is yet to come.”

Yep, that's been rumored to happen a while now...I'm still glad Abit may avoid going bankrupt this way, they were always the enthusiast's best friend in the business!
I hope that, the merger being sorted out, they will lose no time to finally FINALLY release the UL8pro with ULi 1697 chipset *drool*

If they managed to drone about it in their december newsletter AND were able to give away three UL8pro boards as christmas giveaways AND already have the mainboard on their chinese homepage, they should AT LAST satisfy my craving for probably the next OC champion (W1zzard, please review that as fast as possible!).
