Accelero XTREME GTX 2xx

Retro over at XS (wish that it was up) used some copper Enzotech mosfet sinks on the vrms with an HR-03 on a GTX280 and with 2 medium speed 120mm fans acctually ran cooler than on a stock heatsink. I've been thinking about doing the same but I can't find a decent price on an HR-03 and I would rather not use Frozencpu.

Well what can i say? The installation was a pain in the ass. no instructions on how to remove stock cooler. They included some ''pads'' to attach the heatsinks on.. they weren't even sticky and fel of all the time.

My GTX280 is now idle about 40 degrees... @ full speed and my room temp is about 21 degrees...

Also it broke my internal fan controller somehow. that's why it's running @ full speed all the time now.

If I knew this i wouldn't buy it....
well... my GTX 280 still works but not flawlessly like it used it be

The pads are just fine, you didn't clean the memory/VRM with eraser like the instructions say if they don't stick. The original cooler thermal pad material is slippy as can be and doesn't come off with just alcohol and rubbing. It was very hard to remove the VRM sink after it had been on 2 days with those tiny pads (couple heat/cool cycles help to get the final stick).

Mine controls fan still, don't know what happened with yours. Anyways Accelero TwinTurbo had a PWM to molex adapter with it. Something like that would work for you, just put the 12v to the 5V spot and enjoy the silence again.

I couldnt wait to get one of these, but like Kursah has pointed out, it has made me worry about VRM temps, and I dont think I need one now anyway. My GTX260 is ideling now at 38*C!

And never loads above 68*C, even with my OC (Thanks to some fan tweaking)

That and I tried to remove the stock cooler just after I got it to reapply TIM, but I couldnt get it off (A screw was stuck), but it seems based on my temps, EVGA apply it well anyway.

Ok, then now the pads are sticky if you'd try to remove them. The adapter isn't included in this cooler as it's only meant for cards that all have 4pin pwm plug in them. Just that if a friend of your happened to have said cooler you could get the adapter or find similar online cheap.

I already placed an ad on the biggest hardware site of the netherlands and I emailed Accelero. do you where i could buy this plug online? Perhaps in the netherlands? Where should i google for, accelero molex adapter didn't help me much

No idea, doubt they even exist outside the TwinTurbo cooler. Even they don't have one http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=34_289 and have pretty much everything else.

Hope Arctic Cooling can get you one.

Then it's just taking out the yellow wire and moving it to the other corner hole. Quite easy to do with a pin/needle of some sort, even if you haven't before.

Something like this for example (this is female version, male plug much easier):

Then just widen the side hooks a bit before you plug it in to the red wire place.

that's not needed because the 4pin to molex adapter he sends comes from his Twin turbo cooler

Yes it works straight away, but it's 12v = same full speed as you get now With 5V it'll be about 41,7% fan speed (mine runs at the 40% min constantly)

I remember waiting on 2 for my 2900XT's, finally they came out, they were great but I was moving to the 8800gts 512's/

But i like the look of that thing, like the same thing on the Asus 4870x2's


I think it would be great on the 280's, sometimes, i don't want to mess with water, just a slick fan cooler....

we'll keep looking and if you see one give a shout and i will do the same.

This could be done to the Accelero as well. I think it is more effective than the included aluminum vrm plate, just as is the case with Thermalright's heatsink.

Thanks, the Enzotech mosfet (vrm) heatsinks are somewhat long. The copper is soft enough to cut or bend if needed though.

I agree that for many people, the HR-03 GTX is just too damn big. It's ok for me because I have no pci cards and no plans for sli but for those that do, it is not going to work. I like the design of the Accelero, and for that matter, the Thermalright T-Rad2, but no 200 series versions of that cooler unfortunately. I think the Accelero is going to do very well, would have bought one myself if they had been available a few months ago.

Molex:
0 0 0 0

Yellow is in the 2nd hole and black in the 3rd hole.

0 = Empty
(X) = Yellow
(Y) = Black

0(X)(Y)0

Can i make it run on 7v?

Fans run on 12V and 7V needs extra components.

You need to swap the yellow wire to the red wire slot, as in do this:

Start molex:
12v G G 5V
0 0 0 0
| | | |
| | | |

End (what you want) molex:
12v G G 5V
0 0 0 0
| | | |
| | | |

Obviously you only have the yellow wire and one black ground, but hope that was more understadable.
