What is the  point for temps on opteron processors?

Current idle runs between 34-37 core 0 with core 1 following 29-32

Full load in Orthos both cores start around 52, in time slowly get into the higher 50s (after 6 hours I was 64/62). I'm running a zalman 9700, I'm just wondering if at those temps the heat is going to give my processor a nice big :nutkick:?

I havent had time to really see what the temps will get to while playing a game or something along those line (actually dont game much with it anymore).....I know my case isnt the best (centurion 5) and I need more fans bringing air into the case, but I really think that would only make a 1-2 temp difference, and I like quiet!. I get great flow out of the case since my zalman and 110 exhaust are inline of each other.

2 questions...is it still OC'd? and do you have Airconditioning or just open windows?

@ mediocre that actally sounds like the right number from AMD. I was actually gonna say they said 70, but dont hold me to it! kinda depends tho if the thermal shutoff is set lower than that in bios....My DFI is set to 60*c and mobo shuts computer down.

opty being a server class cpu, could handle around 90C...safe side stay around 70C (as stated)

I would say those are good for a server class CPU, but still, maybe get some Arctic Silver 5 on that heatsink if you don't already, maybe try running a little less voltage to it?

Its still OC'd at 2.9ghz up from the 1.8ghz (opty 165)

I was just chatting w/ a friend today about temps...he freaked when I mentioned 60's..but if tops is 70, or possibly higher I'm not too concerned, I will never have the processor running 100% for several hours on end.

Besides you were using orthos for a few hours anyway, that's incredibly stressfull...

Aye but I have had temps hit 2c higher after hours of stressful gaming than hours on end of orthos.

    LOL what is 2c tho.

Odd, it must be my 65nm process, but my Bane doesn't come anywhere NEAR the heat that orthos produces while gaming. In fact, it's usually 10*C lower, even in stressful games.

If I remember,I looked it up on AMD's site a while back and found the max "case temp" was 65C.
Not sure what "case temp" is really though.

Yeah 65C is correct...if you want info on max temps for any CPU's check here

No I had the same results before my newest cooler mod also.
