So why are we now getting ads that can lead to potentially unwanted software on our computers on TPU?

Nope, must be on your end. :p Actually there's been ads there for quite some time. What is the problem? Do you like to click on ads?

I viewed the techpowerup home page on Firefox and Chrome, and I did not see any ads at all.

I don't worry about malware. If someone can write a "real" virus for Ubuntu, I'll be surprised :D
