Do they make splitters like this?
can't u just use a router with build in switch?
Do you want to use two computers or a modem and a phone? The diagram makes it seem like you want to use two modems, which as far as I know is not possible. If you want to use two computers, use a router with a built in switch. If you want to use a modem and a phone, just but a cheap phone line splitter and use a DSL filter on the line connected to the phone.
AFAIK... Nope, you would need a hub/switch.
A hub or switch alone wouldn't work since the computers would have an IP conflict when trying to access the internet. A router with built-in switch would be needed in that case.
Just any regular phone cord splitter (RJ11) will do. Just know that it will weaken the signal a bit.
Mind you, only one ADSL modem can work per phone number so there's really no point in splitting it. You'd need two separate phone numbers to the structure and ADSL on both for there to be any real benefit.
Yes, we got one here aswell.
However, as far as i know, they're obsolete these days, I got advised by my ISP to remove it.
Thank you for that info.
OP here is some info, if you need it.
Home Network Setup – What are the possible configuration settings for a home/SOHO network with 3-4 computers and an ADSL Internet connection?

an adsl splitter takes the adsl frequencies on the copper wire and puts them out on one side, and the analog/isdn phone frequencies on the other side. it's not an ethernet switch/hub/router/anything
Sorry everyone, I should have explained myself better.
I live in a 4 story house. My modem is on the 1st floor with a line running to my computer there and a line running up to the second floor. That line runs to my wireless router I have there. From that router, I have connected my 2nd floor PC and I have a line that runs outside to the 4th floor. On the 4th floor (My Mancave), I want to connect 2 computers for some online coop play but I don't want run to another line to my router on the 2nd floor.
So I thought I could split the line up there.
no, you cant. you need one phone line to the modem, and everyone else connected to a router either via ethernet or wireless.
You cannot run two modems on the same phone line any more than you could have two phone conversations on the one phone.
You can also just add a cheap 4-port ethernet switch to the 4th floor line and run both computers off that, and then you don't have to run new wires outdoors.
And wouldn't you know it I had a 4 port hub sitting in my storage room.
I have it up and running boys.
I wish I could have you all over for drinks, maybe a little smoke and some DEAD SPACE 2. I'll update my ManCave pics soon.
Happy Chinese New Year
Hub? Switch? I thought I heard that mentioned?
HH, glad you got it up and running... enjoy.
